Some of you may know that I was a pastor for almost 2 decades before we made the shift into being full time YouTubers, which somehow seamlessly flowed into serving people as a Real Estate Agent when we moved to Nashville!
So much of the way I have built my business is on those 2 pillars of creative marketing in the digital space AND ministering to people in the real world.
The thing about being a Realtor is that you really are connecting with people in some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives. Moving can be stressful, and it’s almost always prompted by some sort of major life event. Having children - or grandchildren! Becoming empty nesters. New job. Death. Diagnosis. Divorce. Very rarely is it because someone just had a Nigerian Prince send them an email about some ridiculous inheritance they previously were clueless to.
What an opportunity to be a safe place for people to process and grieve and hope and dare to get excited! To be a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. To be a cheerleader, encourager, therapist, and friend. This happens for me now as an agent in ways that people never would have given me the opportunity to be part of as a pastor, where they felt like they had to be on their best behavior and put on a smile all the time.
That is an honor that is not lost on me. It’s not about making a sale. The bottom line is loving people well. It’s a real opportunity to minister to people in a very real, tangible way where they are. F Bombs and all. And it may or may not ever lead to the closing table. I often call Amanda and say, “This is probably just not gonna be the time for them to buy, but man I sure am thankful for the privilege of getting to serve them through this time.” That’s not wasted. That’s a gift.
I’m so, so thankful that I get to do this. I’m thriving in this work. It’s holy work. It’s good work. And I’m loving it!
