Ok let me start by stating how FLAWLESS these covers are for this series! MOOD 👀
In book 2 of the St. Benedict series, we venture further into the malice that IS the Devereaux family. While graves are being dug for the deaths occurring like clockwork, secrets are being dug up on the most famous family to ever exist in St. Benedict 🤫
Just when I thought Book 1 was twisted...this one came in serving heavy doses of the most twisted twizzlers that ever was! She’s giving Twisty from American Horror Story Season 4 HEN 👏🏼 NY 👏🏼 Just when I thought this family was fu**ed in the head, this book somehow made them and their cohorts straight up demented 😵💫 The murders were even more vile, the evidence is becoming more scarce, and the murderers are becoming less suspecting. This thrill-ride knows NO bounds 😈
There was so much historical context to the Devereaux family and St. Benedict itself in this one. Book 1 set up the initial plot and introduced us to the present-day characters. Then this book tied-in that same plot with some historical characters and murders that led to so much happening in St. Benedict in the present. It provides such a depth to these characters and the plot that I will willingly dive into 🧜🏼♂️ It also just added so many more players to the game that made so much of this unpredictable, which I am here for!
The book does such a fantastic job of creating such an alluring yet CHILLING atmosphere 👻 I love books that are able to completely change your current atmosphere and shape your senses to that of the book’s atmosphere. Sweetie I was all snuggly with candles and wine yet somehow reading this sent me to Slenderman’s damn forest running for my mf life 🧟 But was I upset about it? NO 👏🏼 If I’m reading a thriller, she better give me the creepies and this did just that. Y’all will be happy to know though that I did not spill a drop of this wine running from Slenderdaddy. Would have been a different story with Edward Devereaux though...

River of Wrath is book 2 of the St. Benedict series by authors Alexandrea Weis and Lucas Astor. Obviously, I have to tiptoe around some details so as not to spoil parts of the first book, River of Ashes. With the second book, we get new POVs from Gage Devereaux (!), a great choice since we finally get to learn more about him and the Devereaux family, and oh boy, there are some skeletons in the Devereaux closet, if not the Bogue Falaya River. We also get chapters from the town's embattled sheriff Kent Davis, who wants to do the right thing but is under Gage's manipulation, and we also get a POV chapters from Gage's wife Elizabeth and of course, Leslie Moore, our main protagonist of the book.
Moore and her thrown together friends of Taylor, Kelly, and Sara ate navigating choppy waters as they grapple with actions from the last book. They also get wrapped up in the arrival of the town's new stranger, Luke Cross, who reminds them of a certain someone yet not entirely. Cross is indeed an interesting character, and as his story unfolds, it opens up all sorts of possibilities for future books in the series.
Murder, family drama, hidden secrets, and supernatural flourishes keep this book compelling as its predecessor; though, Wrath does feel like a transition book to River of Ghosts. That doesn't make Wrath's reveals any less juicy. You're guaranteed to read this one fast.

This terrifying story seems all to real. It is thrilling and twisted, but also advocates for women by discussing the aftermath sexual assault can have on a victim.

In Louisiana, students are attending St. Benedict school. Beau Devereaux is a popular football player known for throwing great parties near the river bank and the haunted Abbey. Good looking, wealthy, and well liked in town—nobody knew what this psychopath was thinking and the actions he committed.
With so many twists, turns, heart palpitations, and an unexpected ending you’ll be captivated and horrified at the same time.
