Welcome to Perks of Being a Widow (spoiler: there are none).

I am so excited to share part two of this conversation with you. In this episode, Jesse and I talk about his book, Always Here- Death of a Spouse: A Gentle AI Companion for Widows. He tells me about how this book came to be and how he hopes it can help fellow widowed people move forward on their grief journey.

Jesse is a grief educator, and you can find his work at https://jessekuhn.com/
He has a podcast and Substack called The Torchbearer's Voice as well as a book series, Always Here. You can also find his book, Always Here-Death of a Spouse: A Gentle AI Companion for Widows on Amazon.

As always, if you are interested in sharing your story on the podcast, please email me at [email protected] or message me on Instagram .

Welcome to Perks of Being a Widow (spoiler: there are none).

I am so excited to share this episode with you. My conversation with Jesse ran long and so it's gonna be two episodes instead of the usual one. In this episode, we spend a lot of time talking about the effects of grief and how it impacts us both on a physical level and on a spiritual level. We discuss what his grief journey has been like and how he is moving forward with that grief.

Welcome to Perks of Being a Widow (spoiler: there are none).

In this episode, I speak with Amber, whose fiance died in a motorcycle accident. We talk about what it's like to have lost her life partner at such a young age (she was only 24 when he passed), how this experience has changed her and her life, and also how this loss has affected their cat.

Welcome to Perks of Being a Widow (spoiler: there are none).

In this episode I speak with Brittany, whose husband died after suffering a pool accident. We talk about his extended hospital stay, how he stayed positive throughout, and what it was like for her to ultimately have to make the decision to discontinue care. We also discuss how much her church has been a support for her since his passing.

Welcome to Perks of Being a Widow (spoiler: there are none).

In this episode, I speak with Jamie who lost her husband to liver failure. We talk about her experience navigating solo parenting while grieving, as well as navigating parts of her own identity that she hadn't been able to explore before suffering this loss. A little bit of a trigger warning: we do briefly discuss the su***de of a family member.

Welcome to Perks of Being a Widow (spoiler: there are none).

In this week's episode, I speak with Colleen who lost her husband at the beginning of 2020. Just a week after the funeral, the world shut down. We talk about how her grief experience was impacted by Covid and the global lockdown, feelings of isolation and suicidal ideation, and how she's been able to find healing, sobriety, and love again in the years since.

A couple key resources we discuss:
Pilates and Yoga, particularly Phoenix Rising Yoga
The show Afterlife with Ricky Gervais
The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle
Writing
Breathwork
