I have had so many incredible nights at the . Sung with so many friends and heroes. Laughed and cried, sometimes during the same song (looking at you, .craig). It’s so familiar and warm, it feels like your living room, if your living room were filled with great songwriters and steeped in history. And had church pews. 😂 On December 20 I’ll be there again with - we might even pull out a song or two from my Christmas album, Northern Lights. Tickets go on sale December 15th at 8am. Join us!

I didn’t know Raul well, but when our paths did cross, it was always accompanied by joy, laughter, and magic. What an astonishing voice. What a life force. One of my favorite memories was an after-show hang at a bar across from the old Ace of Clubs in Nashville - the show I’ve long since forgotten, but not the hang. Raul pulled out the biggest cigar I’d ever seen, ordered us all drinks and proceeded to hold court for the next couple of hours. A beneficent king. More charisma than should be legal. Bigger than life.
A few years later he was gracious enough to lend his incomparable voice to a song on my debut album, The Secret Of Life. Like everything else he sang, it was elevated by his singing. Again, he came into the studio that day and somehow filled the whole room up with his presence.
That quality makes it even harder to accept a world without him in it. My heart goes out to Betty and their sons and the Mavericks and all the fans and friends who loved him. We are lucky to have the music, but we were even luckier to have the man.
