Rad Christmas gift from !

I’ve been eyeing it for a while… SST bands were really formative in my music education. Husker Du was one of my early influences and that’s carried thru to today. Dinosaur Jr - another her HUGE influence. Bad Brains… man, they absolutely blew my mind, just amazing! Circle Jerks was the first show I saw in Exit In - one of the few all ages shows there. That was 1987, and didn’t set foot in there again until 7 years later.

Das Damen- upstairs at the Cannery (with Clockhammer opening!). Meat Puppets a couple times - Sals rock block?? Cannery too. And on and on and on!

Looking forward to reading this!

And a shameless plug - support your local Indy bookstores and head over to and I’m pretty sure you too can own this book!

I'm looking for a laptop PC to run some design software. The only real requirement is that it's got Windows 10 installed. The software is pretty light on requirements, so I'd probably be fine with that 6 years old laptop you've got sitting in the back of your closet. Lemme know if you've got something - willing to trade for some Monkey Riot Pedals hardware too...

Prefer local Nashville.

Here’s two of the best sounding drive pedals I’ve ever heard. Purple is a Barber Small Fry - man it’s nice. People gravitate to this one. It’s an opamp drive with soft and hard clipping. The switch steps through a couple different paths on the clipping. The dynamics control let’s you dial in how much of the hard clipping you want.

The other one is a JFET drive that’s currently out of production and they’re around that $400 area on Reverb (maybe more!) I keep making one for myself and then someone will buy it from me… it does mild drive up to Velcro bias fuzz. The jfet’s give it some tube characteristics.

As usual, both for sale!

There’s some demos at the link in bio and there’s a YouTube channel for “monkeyriotpedals”

Finished up a couple of these Sapphire Optical Bass Compressors today. Loosely based on the Diamond compressor - but with some tweaks and additions.

Compression is via a VTL5C3 Vactrol - you can use a LED/LDR combo but they tend to be inconsistent and have different attack & release behavior. The vactrol keeps it in the land of smooth LA2A style response.

These also have a Mix control for parallel compression. You can do some heavy compression and bring in some of the dry signal to preserve dynamics or tonality that gets altered with compression. It also opens up a lot of options when using aggressive EQ’ing with the:

Tilt Eq: this pedal features a tilt eq with a selectable center frequency of 250hz or 900hz. The tilt eq works around a center point - as you turn it counter clockwise, it simultaneously boosts low end while rolling off high frequencies. Opposite with clockwise rotation. Tilt eq is very musical & great for smooth tone shaping.

There is also a hi-cut switch to roll off a little treble. Nice for getting rid of a little string noise.

This pedal runs on 9-18v DC. Higher voltages give you a little more headroom. I also used the OP275 op amp for the compression section of the circuit. The original Diamond comp used them, and I see why. I experimented with other dual op-amps,but the OP275 easily beat all the others.

$175 / 2 available

Finally got some time to catch up on pedal builds! It’s reverb time. I’m prepping these Belton Reverb Bricks to go into a batch of Lonesome Dove Reverb Vibratos.

I’ve got some clips up a little farther down in my feed and you can always check the web site (link in bio.)

I’ve also got a YouTube channel with demos on just about everything I’ve got in stock right now!

Photo dump from the insanely productive tracking session from the last 2 days at - we cut 10 songs (I think we got everything! No more overdubs!!) for and his Coyote Motel cohorts. He’s doing a long form film project out next year and these tracks form the basis for the soundtrack. I don’t have everyone’s instattags, but check out Ted’s account for more info on his film.

I been pretty busy with music projects but had some time today to work on a gnarly fuzz circuit. I got all the kinks out of it, I’ll do a prototype soon. I really wanted to design something way less complicated than my reverb pedal and this thing fits the bill. 3 k***s (and a trimmer) - it should fit into a 1590b.

I’ll get some clips up soon!

Here’s a vid on this reverb vibrato I’ve been working on. Design is finalized, gonna crank out a few. It’s called the Lonesome Dove - it’s a trippy delay/reverb/vibrato. In the vid, I’ve got it set to where it’s oscillating just enough to create a pad type texture like Nader the guitar.

More demos coming!

I’m so stoked for this record to come out - I’ve been working on a full length with at - The songs are great, the playing is amazing and the sounds are killer. And they’re all fairly ok people that aren’t boring so that’s a bonus.

We pretty much finished up instrument overdubs last night and now on to vocals. If you haven’t heard them yet, give them a follow and/or lookup some of their music. We should have something finished sooner than later… the issue we’re having is trying to pick the first single, but it’s a tough choice cuz everything is so good.

I’ll go back to making guitar pedal posts now. Some cool things on the way!!!

I spent a couple weeks getting this pedal tweaked. It’s a Reverb/Vibrato that gets some pretty extreme sounds. You can dial the reverb or vibrato down to get a straight ahead version of that style of pedal - but it shines when you use both.

It’s also got some pretty extensive feedback capabilities- you can feedback the predelay, the reverb or both.

This is a demo showing higher feedback settings to get a sustained pad effect that you can play over.

It’s also got a momentary switch for the feedback so you can use that feature more selectively, but this sounds super cool.

I’m going to do a short run of the hand-built vero versions and eventually migrate over to PCB’s - so hit me up!!!

Here’s a just finished custom job for

It’s a harmonic percolator based circuit that uses silicon transistors for Q1 & Q2 (normal percolator uses a germanium for Q1) and it’s also got a few extra features. Density blends between 2 input caps, so it adjust the amount of low frequencies hitting the first transistor. It’s got a clipping pot that varies how much signal is sent to the clipping diodes. I also added a diode select - one position is fairly stock, second is an odd combo. He requested an extra low cut, so I added a 3 way switch that’ll thin it out even more by changing the coupling cap between Q1 & Q2.

Sounds really good and sonically is really similar to the germanium version, it just plays a little stiffer. The germanium version feels a bit spongier playing into it.
