17 years old here w/big dreams & some decent hair, right?! I was already doing radio then & it was my passion. This was Christmas morning & I probably asked for nothing but cassette tapes, maybe some hair mousse? I would use cassettes (google it, kids) to record my radio shows…along w/the countdowns so I could go back & mimic Rick Dees or Bob Kingsley, telling the stories behind the songs. It was strange but I knew from as far back as I can remember, that I wanted to do exactly what I do today. Call it a God thing, or gradually willing your own destiny, but here we are. November 7, 2001–Just weeks after the tragedy of September 11th, as the nation mourned, the great Alan Jackson sang on the CMA Awards “Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning?” I was grateful to be in the audience that night at the Grand Ole Opry House to hear Alan perform it for the first time. I got tears and chills at the lyrics that summed up beautifully what the country felt during those trying times. I’ve always thought that very moment may be the finest example of the power of music I’ve ever experienced.
