Erick is gone but we still are monitoring an area in the Pacific for some tropical development. Currently the NHC has this at a 40% of development in the next 7 days. If this area were to organize, we would get our 6th named storm, Flossie. The Atlantic is still quiet.

Threw together this little visual here. The next 6 days feature areas with a Slight Risk (Level 2/5)+ for severe weather. Many of these days have the potential of being upgraded to higher severe weather probabilities however. An active June stretch in the high plains begins, while MCS season will kick off next week in the Midwest and Ohio Valley.

PDS SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH in effect now for parts of North TX, extreme SE Oklahoma, and extreme NW Louisiana. This includes very populated regions such as the DFW metroplex, Waco, and Shreveport.

A SIGNIFICANT QLCS/Derecho is LIKELY this evening into tonight. Significant wind gusts up to 100MPH are expected within the line along with damaging hail up to 5 INCHES with cells and clusters out ahead of the line. A few tornadoes (a few in which could be intense) can not be ruled out either.

The HRRR model in the graphic shown below shows the swath of wind gusts from the model output. As you can see, there is a significant swath with 70-100mph gusts. On the bottom right, a max gust of 115mph is modeled. That is intense! Also in the black outlined area, a few cells could pop up ahead of the line and pose a very damaging hail risk with hail up to 5 INCHES possible along with a few INTENSE tornadoes with those cells, and even embeded within the line.

This is the real deal, stay glued to the weather starting this afternoon.
