BODY CAM: Officer Resigns Amid Dog Shooting Investigation
MEQUON, WISCONSIN - Former Thiensville Police Officer Richard McCormick has resigned while under investigation following a controversial encounter involving two stray dogs on April 23rd, 2026.
Body camera footage reportedly shows McCormick firing at least 16 rounds. One dog did not survive. A second dog, later named Ranger, escaped despite suffering a gunshot wound. Three women later located Ranger, who underwent surgery through the Wisconsin Humane Society and is now recovering.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is conducting a criminal investigation, while the District Attorney's Office reviews the case for possible charges.
Reports indicate this is the second time McCormick has resigned while under investigation during his law enforcement career.

IMPORTANT: The officers seen at the beginning of the video are Mequon Police officers. Reports indicate they did not use any weapons. The later encounter involved McCormick, who was reportedly outside his jurisdiction when he used his service weapon.
