Police IG Sellu allegedly orders brutality on AYV journalist on duty
About half a dozen gallant personnel of the Sierra Leone Police, well-armed with AK 47 fully-loaded guns (in uniform, carrying the country’s coat of arms), claiming to be working under direct instructions from their boss, the Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, have brutally manhandled and mercilessly beaten up a senior Camera Operator working for the AYV Media Empire, Foday Fofanah, in p***c view, along the Model Old Road Junction in Freetown.
Amidst all attempts and pleas from onlookers and passers-by for the police men to behave themselves responsibly and stop the barbaric act on the harmless and peaceful journalist, one of the personnel, who almost cocked his AK 47 gun, pointing it on the journalists, was angrily shouting in krio, “kick am, pull ihn tit, IG say make we nor lef am, en nar buff if we kill am”, translated in English: “kick him, remove his teeth, the IG has instructed that we do not leave him and nothing will come out of it even if we kill him.”
It was at this point that one of the police men took out a canister of pepper spray and sprayed it on the face and in the eyes of the poor journalist before they could have a field day on him to do what the IG had instructed them (beat the hell out of him).
After minutes of beating the journalist, one of the police men received a call, apparently from a senior statesman, before they could stop the beating and allow Foday to go with his injuries and pains.
According to the brutal police men, Foday interfered in their line of duty, and so he must be barbarically manhandled.
The management of AYV has already made an official complaint to the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), while Foday is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
Attempts to reach the IG to confirm or deny the allegation that he ordered the brutal and bastardly act on the AYV journalist have proven futile. However, this media stands ready to publish his side should he be willing to comment on it.
