😦 My daughter gently pulled the hem of my wedding dress and whispered: “Mom, I saw Evan and Uncle Peter doing something they weren’t allowed to do,” and what I discovered next made me cancel the wedding in an instant.
My husband died in a serious car accident when our daughter Lily was only two years old. For three years, I couldn’t accept the loss and wasn’t even thinking about a new relationship, until the day I met Evan.
He was the brother of my colleague and seemed very kind and attentive. But what attracted me most was how he treated Lily. To my surprise, Lily got along very well with him, and that was what ultimately pushed me to accept his marriage proposal.
I knew he would be a good father to Lily, and that was what mattered most to me. However, I insisted that Lily call him by his first name, not “Dad,” because I didn’t want a new marriage to erase the memory of her father.
On the wedding day, everything seemed perfect. I was convinced I was starting a new chapter. But everything changed in a single second.
Lily tugged on my dress and whispered:
— Mom, I saw Evan and Uncle Peter doing something they weren’t allowed to do.
I looked at Evan: he was near my brother, laughing and drinking.
— What did they do, sweetheart? I asked, slightly worried.
— They told me not to tell you, she whispered.
And what I discovered next made me cancel the wedding instantly.
