Bay cat (Pardofelis badia) is one of the rarest wild cats on Earth and is found only on the island of Borneo in Malaysia Brunei and Indonesia.

Some individuals are deep chestnut red while others are grayish which is a rare color range for a single wild cat species.

Beneath the golden savanna sun, a baby elephant walked close to her mother—playful, curious, unaware of the danger cutting into her trunk. A cruel wire snare had tightened with every step. Left there, it would have cost her trunk, her freedom, maybe her life.

A tourist noticed the wound and made the call that changed everything. Within hours, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Kenya Wildlife Service were on the move. Reaching the pair was difficult. Treating the calf meant sedating both mother and daughter—a risky, delicate decision.

When the team reached them, the snare had cut deeper than expected. But there was still time. The wire was removed. The wound was cleaned. Infection was stopped before it could steal her future.

As the calf woke, confused and unsteady, her mother’s low rumble guided her back. Side by side, they returned to their herd.
