One day, as I walked through the shelter, I wasn’t expecting anything in particular—just another visit, another chance to show some love. But then I saw them: a goofy Italian Greyhound with the quirkiest grin, and right beside him, a floppy-eared rabbit with the softest eyes.

When a lioness is in heat, she can mate 20 to 40 times a day, often over several days. Unlike many other species, it's the lioness who demands to mate, approaching the male, rubbing against him, and initiating the process.

But mating at this frequency is exhausting, even for the mighty male lion. If he tires out, the lioness doesn’t just let him rest, she may growl, swat, or nudge him, urging him to continue. This persistent behavior ensures successful reproduction, keeping the pride strong.

While some myths suggest lionesses go as far as biting the male’s testicles to keep him going, that’s not true. They’re dominant in the mating process, but their methods involve pressure, persistence, and a lot of attitude, not outright pain.
