A HUSBAND WALKS IN—AND SEES HIS WORLD SHATTER
Cake and flowers in hand, Adrian stepped into his home, only to find Elena, his pregnant wife, kneeling in tears on the wet marble, blouse soaked, hand clutching her belly—scrubbing desperately at a ruined cake, crushed petals under her trembling fingers.
He stares, frozen. Three maids silent as shadows, his mother on the sofa, sipping tea with icy calm.
“Elena…” Adrian’s voice barely breaks the quiet.
She looks up, eyes swollen with tears, but says nothing. Her silence cuts deeper than any scream.
His mother’s voice slices through the room:
“If she wants to stay in this house, she should learn her place.”
Adrian’s hands shake. The cake box slips.
A maid bursts out, sobbing:
“She’s been doing this every day… ever since you left!”
Silence.
Adrian looks from his mother—unrecognizable—to Elena, kneeling, breaking, still trying to hide her pain.
Then, on the marble by her hand, something catches his eye—a hospital document, its corner wet, but one line clear:
High-risk pregnancy. Strict bed rest required.
Adrian’s face drains of color, words tangled in his throat.
His mother leans forward, her voice colder than before:
“If you think I’ll apologize to her for—”
