My husband left his shoes in the middle of the living room floor.

I saw them last night—they are hard to miss. He’s a tall guy and he wears big shoes.

So, instead of tripping over them, I picked them up and placed them into our closet.

I didn’t grumble.

I didn’t get mad.

I didn’t even say a word.

I know you might be thinking…

“Really, Leslie? He’s a 40-year-old man, he can pick up his own dang shoes.”

And you’re right. He can.

But I’m a 40-year-old woman and I can clean the trash out of my car and change the oil and I know I’m capable of helping my kids with their homework, but sometimes—I don’t do it.

But my husband does.

In fact, there’s a lot of things I don’t do that he does.

And there’s a lot of things I do, that he doesn’t.

We’ve learned after nearly 18 years of marriage, there’s just no reason to keep score.

We let go of the little things and work together on the big ones. We’re just two imperfect humans who love each other a lot and decided many years ago to be on the same team.

And to pick up the slack (and the shoes) when necessary.

With a fierce and intimidating glare, the Makhunga Plains male lion fixed his gaze upon the motionless guy, conveying a powerful message without uttering a single sound. When someone doesn't intimidate the lions, they stare at us with curiosity, not hunger, similar to how people look at animals in zoos.

Five years ago I watched my wife cry the first time she held Rylen’s tiny body in her hands. Her finally becoming a mother after years of trying, fighting, wanting and praying all came together. In that moment, the overwhelming emotion of finally becoming a mother, expressed itself as she cried tears of joy, happiness, relief, disbelief and gratitude.

Today, I watched my wife cry on Rylen’s first day of Kindergarten as she held his body in her arms. Today, the overwhelming emotion of realizing her baby has suddenly become a boy, expressed itself as she cried tears of sadness, fear, disbelief and worry.

She will cry again in future years, tears of frustration during puberty, tears of nervousness when he starts driving, tears of pride when he graduates, tears of loneliness when he moves out, tears of accomplishment when he marries. I will have my camera ready to capture those moments also, as this is what unconditional love looks like...

THIS BOY! A couple weeks ago, I was teary, Carson came in and asked what was wrong. I read him a Facebook post about a mother of a 16 yr old girl with special needs, looking for a date for her daughter to go to her school prom. He said, “Mom, I will do it!”.

And so he did! We went the day before her prom to decorate her room, and let Izzie meet Carson. Then, he accompanied her to prom, where she was crowned Dutchess. Afterwards, he sat in her room for over an hour and watched cartoons with her! SO TENDER, this boy!

Izzie is a darling girl, non-verbal, wheelchair bound, on a feeding tube and mostly uncommunicative. However, there were a few times when her eyes met Carson’s and she lit up like the 4th of July... and, well, so did he!

We are all far more alike than we will ever be different. In a world full of choices, choose kindness!

Just a story about a boy I am blessed to call “son!” He makes me want to be better, do better!

I was in the metro, going to attend a seminar at Delhi University.

Two guys were standing just next to my seat.

Suddenly, they started speaking in German, not knowing that I too knew German. They were actually practising the language.

The whole conversation was something like this in the German language:

Guy 1 — What did you do the whole day?

Guy 2 — I got up, took bath, dropped mom at the bank, came back home and had breakfast.

Guy 1 — let's talk about something interesting. Choose a topic.

Guy 2 — hmmm…. Let's have some casual talk.

Guy 1 — like?

Guy 2 — let's talk about this girl.

Until now, I was careless but suddenly I became conscious, hearing this. I wondered if they were going to talk about me because there was one more girl sitting nearby.

Guy 1— I like this girl. But I don't like her blue bag.

(Mmmm…..Mmm…it was me😅).

Guy 2 — but I like her dressing sense. She looks smart.

Guy 1 — what if she is boring.

Guy 2 — what if she is charming.

Guy 1 — You look interested in her.

Guy 2 — Shall I propose to her?

And then, both burst into laughter. I was finding it very difficult to stay calm. I was enjoying their conversation as I was also a student, learning the same language.

While getting down from the metro, I told them in German — “Sie sprechen sehr gut Deutsch.” (You speak German very well.)

On this, they were shocked. Speechless. Now, it was my turn to laugh.

Before freezing to death, people tend to remove their clothes.

Yes.

This is called “paradoxical un******ng”, a phenomenon frequently seen in cases of lethal hypothermia. Shortly before death, the person will remove all their clothes, as if they were burning up, when in fact they are freezing.

When people are freezing, the most important thing is to keep the brain and vital organs functioning. So, the blood vessels at the ends of the body naturally tighten up to ensure a good blood flow to those vital organs.

After being in this stressed state for a while, the muscles handling the blood vessels get tired and need a time to "rest."

Now, the blood vessels on the body's surface open wide, making the blood rush quickly to the limbs. Suddenly, those cold limbs feel all warm, creating the illusion of being "crazy hot."

When this signal reaches the brain, it misguides the instructions, making people believe it's scorching hot, leading them to take off all their clothes.

At that point, people who are on the verge of dying get up and struggle to undress, thinking that un******ng is good.
