A global investigation has revealed a record-breaking money laundering case in Bangladesh’s history.
Saiful Alam Masud, chairman of the Chattogram-based S. Alam Group, and his family are accused of moving almost 20 billion US dollars (about 223,855 crore taka) to other countries through more than 470 shell companies in nine nations.
This amount is about 4% of Bangladesh’s GDP, making it one of the biggest financial scandals in the modern world.
The investigation, which began after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, found luxury villas, five-star hotels, offshore bank accounts, and even secret citizenship purchases.
What was hidden for years is now becoming one of the boldest financial crimes in world history.
