It was a party at the Carter mansion, home to the wealthiest family in town. The pool area was filled with laughter and conversation as the guests enjoyed the sunshine and soft music. In one corner, a little boy in simple clothes played near the pool, quietly watching the others from a distance. He clearly didn’t seem to belong in such a luxurious environment, but he had been invited by a friend.
Suddenly, a scream shattered the peaceful atmosphere.
“My granddaughter! My granddaughter!” shouted the billionaire grandfather, Richard Carter, after seeing his granddaughter, Emily, fall near the edge of the pool.
The guests immediately became frantic. The poor little boy standing nearby was instantly blamed.
“You pushed my granddaughter!” Richard Carter yelled, pointing at the boy. “Don’t move! I’m calling the police!”
The child froze, not knowing what to do. Every guest stared at him with accusing eyes, while the little girl, already out of the water, cried helplessly.
But then, Emily’s wheelchair, which had fallen beside the pool, caught everyone’s attention. The moment Richard noticed the empty wheelchair, something suddenly didn’t make sense.
Still crying, Emily moved closer to her grandfather.
“Grandpa, it wasn’t him!” she said between sobs. “I fell by myself! My wheelchair lost control near the edge of the pool.”
Richard Carter stood speechless, staring at the wheelchair lying beside the pool, finally realizing how unfair his accusation had been. In his desperation to protect his granddaughter, he had blamed the wrong child.
“I’m sorry, son,” Richard said, his voice trembling. “I thought you were trying to take advantage of the situation.”
But the boy looked at him kindly and replied:
“Don’t worry, sir. I was just playing nearby. It wasn’t my fault.”
