There is no single Muslim narrative. Our Faith is one, but its lived reality is different for everyone. Instead of conforming to uniformity, we should aim for unity through our varied experiences as rooted in our Tradition.

"We are not a monolith. The Muslim community is so insanely diverse--racially, religiously...I think we need to embrace that." -Rowaida Abdelaziz

Mental health is often a taboo subject within our families and communities. When we have body aches, we don't hesitate to ask experts. Yet, our mind is the most important muscle within our body, and we have curated a culture of shame and guilt when someone is suffering from a mind-related issue. It's important that we create an environment of vulnerability so that individuals can speak about what is bothering them in their thoughts and emotions.

Faith is informed often by culture. When we do away with culture, we are doing away with the lens through which our faith is understood. Yes, interjecting our ethnocentric biases onto our understanding of faith is something to be weary of, but, completing ridding one's heritage from how faith has been understood can lead to a sense of puritanicalism.
