Happy Father’s Day!

Teri got a new toy for her birthday and decided to break it out today for Father’s Day. Turns out there is a learning curve.

Mike: so you’re telling me if I want to spray whipped cream in my mouth it will be powerful.

Teri: goes to spray it on the cake and welp…turns out it is powerful

Had a nice summer storm yesterday. Everything got a good watering, the herd got a bath, and probably the best part was some relief from the flys for a few hours! Of course the mosquitoes came out in full force afterwards. 😑

Not a good start to the day here on Repeat Ranch. Sharing the good and the bad because that is the reality of raising your own food or homesteading.

Came into the rabbit patch to find my best breeding buck had passed away. I suspect from heat stroke. 😢 poor guy.

He was a feisty rabbit, but not mean. He was responsible for all 3 of my successful litters this year. He will be missed. Rest in Peace Mr. Mathew

All of the other rabbits have fresh ice packs and I will be rotating new fresh ones throughout the day to hopefully prevent anymore casualties

A new upgrade for the rabbit patch. I got a solar powered ceiling fan to help move the air and keep them more comfortable in the summer!

Rabbits don’t do well in heat, so if you are raising rabbits in a place that gets over 75* in the summer you really need to consider ways to keep them from overheating. They can easily get heat stroke in the summer and you can lose them if you aren’t addressing the heat.

Ways to combat it is making sure they have constant access to clean water, shade all day, frozen water bottles or ice packs to lay on, and fans to keep air circulating.

I got this fan off Amazon. I do not have electric over at the rabbit patch yet, so I had to go with a solar fan which cost a little extra up front but is easy to install.

This one has fan speed settings, a light, and is programmable to go on and off at certain temps. I have it set to come on when it’s 75*F outside, and go off if it gets down to 69*F. I have Tamuk rabbits that were bred for the Texas heat, but I still needed a way to keep the air moving through the rabbit patch on hot and humid days.

Surprise!

Ruby never came up for breakfast, and Teri went looking and found this adorable surprise!

A beautiful heifer calf. She is going to be so spoiled, Ruby, Saba, and Chuck are all so protective of her already.
