Are you looking for lunch on this beautiful Saturday in New Orleans? Are you craving a burger? Perhaps a smash burger, more precisely? If so, head up river to Smash Dat Smash Burgers — located at 10202 Jefferson Hwy., in River Ridge.

Basically, it's right by John Curtis H.S., and even if you're coming all the way from Uptown, or the Bywater … this is worth the drive.

We talked with the owner, Quinn, had a great lunch there yesterday, and will be back again, for sure.

Perfect burger patties. Good quality ground beef, not tight packed, loose, and well-formed. Placed on that grill cold, and then griddled to crispy perfection, with just the right amount of seasonings.

We ordered up a nice batch of fresh cut onion rings, too, and they were the perfect accompaniment. Delicious, all-around.

We've been telling you about prettyfunkytreats since it first opened as a small shop on West Metairie Ave. more than two years ago. My wife likes their take on some of the old school, childhood classics, such as their line of home made takes on Little Debbie Cakes, but truth be told … the young women who run this place are just a joy to talk with, and a pleasure to buy from and support.

Their sweets are, perhaps mostly over-the-top, but in a grand way.
Everything is done in a bombastic style. As if they're saying: It's a treat, silly, so dig in, and live it up; go for that run tomorrow.

They're not so much telling you stop in and eat these things every day, as they are saying life deserves mini celebrations from time-to-time, and they're open to serve that function, and bring a little bit of Pretty Funky Joy into this world.

Or course, their treats — especially their cakes — are worthy of Big Time celebrations, too. So, whether you just want to indulge after a rough day at the office, treat yourself and a friend to celebrate a small victory, or champion a big win or a milestone … this place does the trick with skill and an infectiously cheerful spirit.

What do we have here? Last chance (for a 'lil while, we suspect), to get your hands on Southerns boudin part sammich. Mmmmmm, good!

Will warm your belly, in this somewhat chilly weather we're having after a slew of 85 degree days.

This is eating, Louisiana style, New Orleans style, right in the heart of Metairie — Vets near Clearview.

Southerns is open seven days a week, but note: they close a bit early on Mondays and Sundays … deservedly so.

Super Bowl is in town, and everyone is going to a bar, a restaurant or a house party tomorrow to watch / not watch the game. But, one thing is for sure, King Cakes will be featured at all these places on the Big Day.

For our money, Adrians Bakery is one of New Orleans' Top Spots for king cakes, and delicious baked goods.

Right there on Mirabeau, where the peaceful and charming Filmore neighborhood meets Gentilly.

If you want to get in on the Super Bowl spirit, and also recall that wonderful Super Bowl Win the New Orleans Saints brought us 15 years ago, on this day, then all you have to do is get down to the The Historic New Orleans Collection to see the exhibit about Super Bowl history in New Orleans, along with memorabilia from the game the Saints won in Miami, in 2010. Who Dat!

Head's up to all Mardi Gras people, this just in from the Krewe of Muses. One heckuva clever, and useful new throw this year. We know plenty of friends and family who will covet one of these on the parade routes, in what we all hope will be a warm Carnival season. Good on you, Muses.

We had to update our write up on Nola Places for the One and Only: Gio's Pizza and Spaghetti House.

Dave Portnoy went by yesterday when he landed in town for the Super Bowl, and Gio's was his first stop.

So glad he made it, and … oh, what a review!
Keep on keeping on, Gio's. Y'all are the best & Metairie True.

David Portnoy - El Presidente just landed at MSY, and he made a stop at Gio's Pizza & Spaghetti House on West Napoleon in Metairie. He's right … "It's up there, this is a New York / New Jersey scale, this is very good, a true 7.6 — good pizza."

Gio's has been a go to of ours for many years.
Great people, in the heart of Metairie.

Their meatball starter is great, too.
