Please post and forward our updated version of the Walpole Island Spring Pow-Wow happening on May 18/19, 2024.
This is a free event open for the general public to attend on both days.
Grand Entries are the highlight of every powwow yet enthusiasts love the energy of the singing, dancing, craft and food vendors as well as the opportunity to reconnect with family and friends.
For indigenous people we like to share who we are in this most contemporary form of social gathering. Elements of of our culture, spirituality, beliefs, and practices are witnessed in this social environment.
The Baby Pageant on Sunday is for all babies being shown off in their regalia. The Children do not have to be awake when this pageant is happening yet is a great keepsake picture taking moment for your family.
WIFN Covid Memorial Dance is to honor all those loved ones who passed on from Covid during the isolation period where we were not allowed to gather as family and community, or to practice traditional ceremonies the way Creator gave to us. Community members are encouraged to enter the dance floor on behalf of their loved one, share their picture or the name of their loved one to the Emcee.
Victory Dance is to celebrate and acknowledge the Achievements and Successes of community members in sports, arts, culture, etc. Please nominate who these individuals are, what they did, how they did it, what they are doing now, and what they are continuing to work towards.
Memorial Round Dance on Sunday is sponsored by many individuals who knew Kee-we-tuss-say-qua, who worked at the Health Centre and was a friend to many throughout her life. Anyone that is working on this special please network with one another by calling the Health Centre at (519) 627-0765.
Additional Funding and Sponsors will be acknowledged in future publications and in other flyers and postings.
