Nicco Tommaseo, Pass Captain of the Holy Cross Tigers Powerlifting Team, participated last spring in the Powerlifting America High School Nationals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Tommaseo was named a Powerlifting All-American following his first-place gold medal win at the event which earned him a spot on the U.S. National Team. Over 400 community members and leaders joined the St. Bernard Parish Public School System to celebrate the district’s annual Day of Reflection Breakfast. Held at the Chalmette High 9th Grade Academy on Friday, August 29th, this year’s event marked a special milestone: 20 years to the day since Hurricane Katrina devastated St. Bernard Parish. With a focus on the District’s theme of “Strong Roots, Bright Futures”, the breakfast was a celebration of food, music, camaraderie, and growth of the school system and the surrounding community in the two decades since the storm....

Jessie James Mire, age 75, a beloved resident of Chalmette, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, Jessie was the son of the late Gille Mire and Annunciade Mire. The Athletics Department at Nunez Community College marked the closing of summer with an exclamation point, celebrating with friends and supporters of Pelican Baseball at the college’s first Summer Baseball Bash. The Physical Activity Center (PAC) was at capacity the evening of Aug. 22, with many St. Bernard Parish officials showing their support at the event. The fundraiser was a big party featuring dancing (thanks to tunes from DJ Louis Lehr, who is also the team statistician), door prizes and an introduction to the 2025-2026 Pelican team players....
