Hello everybody! I know there's been a lack of updates recently, but today I am back with big news: work has started on the next addition to Sounds Like Audio, a new website that will feature video tutorials, reviews, user created content, as well as some of the coolest audio gear money can buy, at great prices! There's more to come that we're not quite ready to share yet, but we've got some tricks up our sleeves that will make us your favorite place to research and purchase new gear and software!

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or we can be of any help, and keep an eye out for further announcements in the coming weeks!

Enjoying babies first family vacation! In the interim I've started using Slate Digital LLC's Batch Commander (in lieu of my lusted after Raven MTX) which I have to say is awesome. Being able to make a macro that automatically beat detectives using the kick and snare, then separates and conforms all the drum tracks to those hits, all with one button so all I've got to do is adjust fades to ensure no transients were lost is amazing. Like the coolest. The built in layouts are cool, but I also love being able to make my own, and just wait till you get your hands on version 2.0. iOS remote control, improved legibility on screen, etc. it's gonna rule. I know people have a love/hate relationship with Slate, but personally I love the products, and I love people who are passionate about what they do, so keep on being you Steven Slate. You make great products, and I'm quite happy with my new session template with Virtual Mix Racks loaded with Virtual Console Collection and Revival modules across all tracks, along with Virtual Tape Machine instances on my drums, guitar busses and master buss, Trigger 2 on my kick and snare tracks (if needed), then rounding it all up with a VCC Mixbuss, Virtual Buss Compressors, and a VTM instance of 2 track 1/2" tape on the master. So yeah, all Slate on the template. Sorry if I sound like an ad, I'm just a big fan. Also for those using Trigger, the new Blackbird studio expansion sounds AMAZING.

Anyway, enough gear talk. Tracking with SPEx has gotten started, we've got basics done for one track, three to go. Looking forward to experimenting around more on this record than on the last one, and incorporating some of Alec's live vocal FX into the recording process. Check back for updates on this project and others!

Ok, about 4 hours into burn in and they are sounding better already, and I've got them volume calibrated with the Adams, probably need to check it again after the burn in is done. Also added some ISOacoustics speaker stands under the Adams which seems to have given them a much clearer low end. In the background you can see the freshly painted and treated vocal booth with a Telefunken AK47 hanging up.

So after a lot of help from my amazing wife, we got a lot done on studio improvements. This is the freshly painted and acoustically treated vocal booth. That black paint? That's chalkboard paint. So if you're having trouble with a particular line, or need a reminder, grab a piece of chalk and write it on the wall! And despite keeping the treatment relatively minimalist, it works like a champ and the booth is now nice and dry. We had a vocal session with a fantastic female vocalist, and the treatment kept everything very clean and she sounded great through a Telefunken AK47 into a Rascal Audio Two-V Neve style pre. Everybody seemed very happy with the results.

Giving the new Waves Audio DBX 160 plugin a whirl. Love the hardware, the Universal Audio one seemed to have less features for more money, so I'm gonna see how I like this. Also got the Fabfilter Pro-Q 2, which I've heard nothing but good things about! If it's as good as everyone says there may be a gate in my future....

We are hiring! We are looking for qualified live sound professionals, experience working with churches a plus. Competitive pay, flexible schedule, and lots of opportunities to learn more about the craft. You don't need to have a ton of experience, we're willing to do some training. We also need installers, must be able to lift at least 50lbs and need to be willing to be up on lifts, etc.

No matter what your experience level, give us a shout and we'll see if we've got a place for you on our team. Either message me here on Facebook or email [email protected]

Hope to hear from you soon!

The Rascal Two-V in its new home, a Purple Audio Sweet Ten. Beside it are two Warm Audio Wa12-500 API style mic pres, and beside those is a Classic Audio Products of Illinois (CAPI) VP28, one of the most bad ass API pres on the market, sold as either a kit or assembled. I got my first one assembled, but I think I'm going to build thee more. Also in there is a Lindell Audio 7X-500 compressor who is going to get replaced with the new stereo version, amongst other odds and ends.

Making some changes to the studio gear! While I love my Antelope Audio Orion 32, it's not ideal for live work, since it has no mic preamps, no headphone outs, etc. So I've chosen to replace it with the Antelope Audio Zen Studio, which I'm going to get wired up this evening. It'll have the same great sound as the Orion, but make doing live recordings so much simpler, as well as offering some nice clean mic pres.

For some added color, we're using a Rascal Audio Two-V Neve style pre, which sounds freakin huge. Amazing on guitars, vocals, drums. Pretty much everything.

Once I finish wiring and racking gear, I'll posts some updated pics of the studio. In the meantime, here's a pic of the awesome desk my best friend built to hold our mixing board!
