We are excited to be back with more amazing conversations and stories from fascinating authors on the Horizon Author Lounge, your go-to podcast for Black indie authors, literary entrepreneurship, and publishing inspiration! This week, we will meet Michelle A. Rhoney and Dee Shepherd
Michelle, author of The Color of Pretty and The Color of Pieces, has compelling fictional memoirs inspired by her journey of healing, resilience, and self-discovery. Rhoney is also the founder of the Confidence Looks Good on You Foundation and Conference, where she facilitates workshops and curates inspiring speakers focused on helping girls and women embrace their worth. With over 24 years of experience as a human resources leader, she brings a deep passion for mentorship, empowerment, and self-love to everything she does. Her work is rooted in the transformative themes of resilience, healing, and personal empowerment. She will discuss how her journey inspired her books, and the power of autofiction to process trauma and encourage self-reflection
Dee is the heart and pen behind Zoey & Co. Publishing, where she brings stories to life that help little learners feel brave, smart, and seen. Her books are inspired by her real-life dino-loving daughter and crafted especially for children navigating learning challenges like dyslexia and speech delays, reminding them that their differences are their superpowers. Beyond books and outside of her 9-5, Dee runs multiple businesses: she’s a certified travel agent, event planner, and co-owner of a 360 photo booth experience.
