Derek W. Black to discuss Dangerous Learning: The South's Long War on Black Literacy. We'll explore the extraordinary lengths enslaved Black people went to in pursuit of literacy, why Southern governments worked so hard to suppress it, and what that history can teach us about today's battles over education and whose stories are allowed to be taught.
Then at 7:30 p.m., award-winning author and poet Marc A. Beausejour joins me to talk about his writing journey, the creation of his BlackCyrano body of work and his newest novel, A Volatile Game of Passion. Marc's latest story follows a successful Atlanta CEO whose romance with an Army veteran and college professor turns into an increasingly dangerous struggle over desire, obsession and control. Two authors. Two very different books. One fascinating conversation about the power embedded in the stories we tell.
