This is a young lady from my former high school-St. Katherine Drexel Preparatory. I’m so proud of her. I had the privilege of meeting her when she was Freshman through a Mentorship Program. She is a Blossom Girl. 🌸 🐝

Happy Mardi Gras! A beautiful story and suit, that’s Mardi Gras.

So it’s been a long day...sorry for the delay. I explained earlier that my suit is called the Taj Mahal: Ella Mae. This suit is a dedication to my maternal grandmother, Ella Hasan, who passed away when I was only 4 years old in 2002.

The top is a collage of “flowers” each made from a piece of jewelry from my grandmother. My grandmother never got a chance to see me mask, but I felt her presence throughout this process guiding my needle.

The skirt has over 50 women and children circling the bottom, who are symbols of the village that motivates and lifts me up to be a strong young woman in this culture. And of course there’s an owl, representing the wisdom that I’m growing into everyday.

I hope you all love this suit as much as I do because it’s truly been a labor of love.
