MUP attends this year's NJ Film Expo... we experienced the new Hollywood!🎬

This year's NJ Film Expo was such an amazing experience for our team! With so many wonderful people attending, it really pushed one of our members to step out of their comfort zone and grow creatively. There was no time to hesitate when it came to networking, sharing contact info, and posting fun updates on our stories. If you caught some of those posts, thanks for showing your support! We truly appreciate it! In addition to posting on our stories, we also shared our past content to inspire the next creative to learn alongside us.

One important lesson was the significance of being authentic and true to ourselves in our professional journeys. We also recognized the importance of connecting with those around us, as we may find our next collaboration or opportunity with someone just a few seats away. Stepping out of our comfort zones and showcasing our potential is vital to making meaningful connections.

Attending an event like this was an incredible opportunity to meet and network with individuals who share our passion and creativity. We are extremely thankful for the chance to learn from all of you and to be part of a community that thrives on innovation and collaboration. Thank you once again for making this experience so memorable and impactful!

đź’°Do you need to fund your film? April-May Opportunities!

One of the main causes for filmmakers to doubt their productions early on is the lack of money; so what if that obstacle was tackled... would you be creating more projects then?

Grants are scary to invest in when it comes to your production or project, and they don't need to be intimidating at all! The mentality that you need to go in with is one with your emerging voice and need to create. If you know you have an outspoken nature to continue with the production, then you need to tackle that obstacle!

We broke down where to look and how to apply strategically. Let us know in the comments below if we missed any that you know of!

If you’re an artist and don’t have a strong, professional music video, it could be holding you back more than you think.

Here’s why:

• First impressions matter your visuals are often the first thing people see before they even fully tap into your sound.
• It helps people understand your brand — a music video gives context to your style, your tone, and how you want to be perceived.
• It makes your release more shareable — strong visuals travel faster across social platforms than audio alone.
• It shows industry readiness — labels, managers, and collaborators look for artists who are already investing in their presentation.

Music videos aren’t just an extra — they’re part of how your music lives and grows. From concept to final edit, every decision should support the energy of the track and the story you’re trying to tell. When it’s done right, it doesn’t just look good — it works for you.

Here’s a quick look at what goes into building a music video that actually supports the artist.

📝 Shot Lists are easy until they're not...

One of the most unbalanced sets of emotions to take place in pre-preproduction is the shot list. It can be as simple as creating camera movements, giving your visuals a chance to really pop, but the truth is, when evaluating all the finite details with your team.

The truth of the matter is that once the team comes along to review the details, it can get really confusing, really quickly. Not sharing details that your team might not be aware of can string along a whole list of issues early on.

📱Vertical Storytelling is the new standard of filmmaking

Once seen as a trend, it is beginning to seem customary when you view films or edits of any kind on social media outlets like Instagram, Facebook, and, at times, LinkedIn.

Audiences are used to their phones being the first thing they touch when waking up and going to bed, so it isn't a shock to see videos being implemented into this new era of vertical storytelling. Many creatives have ditched the traditional ratio of landscaped media to begin to cater to this new trend to gain engagement.

The strongest strategy from this, however? You're gaining a lot of new viewers seeing content from anywhere around the world easily. Use this strategy wisely, and you'll have the opportunity for many eyes to be on your content.

🌟Introducing Amoreena!

Every strong production has someone behind the scenes working hard to keep the storytelling concise and cut neatly. Amoreena handles a wide range at MUP: cutting dynamic teasers and trailers for short films, shaping podcast episodes with tight pacing, and editing webinars that keep viewers locked in from start to finish.

Besides her work with MUP, on the music side of the world, she creates original compositions for short films—crafting scores that amplify emotion and drive the narrative. Her strong-willed determination always motivates us, and we wish her the best in her upcoming short film collaboration this July—more music, more frames, more magic.

🌟🎬The Oscars did not come to play!

After last Sunday, we witnessed huge wins, tearjerking speeches, jaw-dropping outfits, and confidence through the roof. We spoke about Best Picture, but 'One Battle After Another' moved us to confusion and utter disappointment.

Many people like 'Sinners' showed that film is still possible with our courage and love of the craft. Our SubStack Article addresses the big wins, snubs, speeches, and the importance of the representation present at the 2026 Oscars.

If you’re building your career, study the patterns. They matter.

✂️🎬 Editing is the main storytelling aspect when it comes to filmmaking.

Editing should be a messy beginning, with many moving pieces to put into your editing application. We're here to tell you that it doesn't have to be hard!

As a whole, editing is what makes the production or project complete, with the initial vision in its final form. During this phase in editing, it's CRUCIAL to highlight all of the storytelling attributes it holds to better refine and structure the story you're trying to tell. The story will begin to tighten into what you've envisioned and set out to do, but going through the pacing, sound, and color refinements is where it can be difficult.

Remember, structure first, then style. Stories have a stronger impact when they create a structure.

📸 But what do you think comes first when discussing editing?

Meet Amoreena! 🎬

"At MUP, my main role has been editing. I’ve cut trailers for short films and recently started edited episodes for a new podcast. I have to admit it hasn’t been easy but it’s been worth it.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is how to effectively balance this internship with my full-time job. I’ve gotten much better at time management and prioritizing tasks.
My dream job is to be a film/TV composer. Scoring movies or series creating music that elevates the story would honestly be a dream come true."
