As you'd expect from someone who does a Christmas music podcast (Twelve Songs of Christmas), I heard a lot of Christmas music I liked this year starting with "A Strange Daisy Christmas." Conventional wisdom says that Christmas music is all about nostalgia, but I've got a slightly more nuanced take on that. (Link is in the comments)

I’ve thought the strength of the last few Jazz Fest lineups was the way it featured artists who found their audiences in the last decade or so. On first look, that doesn’t appear to be the case this year. I’ll look at the schedule more closely tonight but this looks like another Boomers Got It Right Fest.

Today Strange Daisy Records released "A Strange Daisy Christmas," a two-record set of Christmas music by members of New Orleans' indie rock community. I'm going to review it because there's a lot here I like, but I want to draw attention to it first. Start with tracks by loucey, The Self-Help Tapes and Claire Givens of People Museum. Proceeds benefit non-profits that help to feed New Orleanians.

We're in the last month of the 8th season of "The Twelve Songs of Christmas, our Christmas music podcast. I've pulled together all of the episodes so far in one post so you can check them out. There are good conversations on Brian Wilson, all-Christmas radio, Christmas cumbias, and AI Christmas music, as well as interviews with Blind Boys of Alabama, Sloan Music, Black Market Dub, Shawn Lee, Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson, and more.

There's a lot there to listen to, and in most cases Christmas music starts the conversation more than it's the destination. It's a good antidote to the world of falling girders outside as people talk about creativity and how it fits into their lives. Link is in the comments.

Recently, I broke down the Bad Bunny/Super Bowl controversy, which I think reflected the way MAGA supporters thought that by electing Trump, they had won the culture wars. They were surprised and upset to learn that a young Spanish-language artist whose songs they'd never would play the Super Bowl. (I'll link to that in the comments).

A Change.org campaign now has more than 100,000 signatures calling on the NFL to get George Strait out of semi-retirement to replace Bad Bunny. The choice is better than Lee Greenwood or Kid Rock, but it tells you what you need to know about MAGA. If it doesn't make them happy and comfortable, it's wrong.

A petition calling for Bad Bunny to be replaced by George Strait at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show has over 100,000 signatures.
