Saints 2025 Offensive Review: Late Surge Builds Hope, But Work Remains!
The 2025 season for the New Orleans Saints was anything but smooth, yet it ended with genuine optimism—especially on offense. It marked the first year for head coach Kellen Moore, who arrived with a strong offensive reputation but chose to make selective, impactful changes rather than overhaul the system. Early results were uneven, and the offense struggled to find consistency, finishing the year ranked near the bottom of the league in points per game and red-zone efficiency. Still, as the season progressed, the structure and intent behind Moore’s offense became clearer, and the late-season production reflected that growth.
Much of the offensive turnaround coincided with a change at quarterback. Spencer Rattler started the first half of the season, during which the Saints averaged under 14 points per game and struggled to sustain drives. Following a midseason switch, rookie Tyler Shough took over and brought immediate stability. Over the final nine games, the offense jumped to nearly 20 points and over 340 yards per contest, guiding the team to a 5–4 finish. The Saints also scored 20 or more points in four of their final five games—something they managed only once earlier in the year. While the quarterback plays improved, Moore’s playcalling also appeared more aggressive and flexible, allowing the offense to better attack defenses.
Beyond raw numbers, the situational improvements were just as telling. Third-down efficiency climbed significantly late in the season, and red-zone execution—while still an overall weakness—improved dramatically with Shough under center. All of this came despite major injuries, including extended absences from key playmakers like Alvin Kamara, Rashid Shaheed, and Chris Olave. There are still clear issues to address heading into next season, particularly slow starts, red-zone consistency, and overall depth. However, the offensive growth shown down the stretch suggests the Saints have found a workable foundation, with a developing quarterback and head coach aligned for continued progress.
