Adrian Reimers helped start the People of Praise in 1971. He left in 1985.

He's a philosopher. He taught at Notre Dame, at Holy Cross, and in Kraków. In 1997 he wrote a book about the community he had helped build, and this is the first time it's been printed.

The book is about how the place was actually run. Every member got a "head," meaning a person they answered to. Those heads answered to heads above them. Wives were told to submit to their husbands in all things, and a husband's own head ended up with a say inside the marriage.

Amy Coney Barrett was a member. That's why people started asking about this manuscript again.
