Good night. Before this day ends, I am choosing gratitude. I may not have everything figured out, and my body may still be fighting battles others cannot see, but I am thankful for every moment of strength, every answered prayer, and every person who continues to support me. Even in difficult seasons, there is still something worthy of gratitude. 💚

🚨 “Idiopathic” does not mean imaginary!

The cause may be unknown, but the pressure is real. The pain is real. The vision changes are real and the lives affected by Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) are real.

Too many people suffer in silence because their condition is misunderstood. It’s time to replace assumptions with awareness and silence with understanding. 💙💚

Read. Learn. Share. Someone’s diagnosis may depend on greater awareness.

Thankful Thursday: A Heartfelt Thank You to My Incredible Support Team!

As I continue my journey with IIH, today I want to pause and express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has been by my side. Whether through your prayers, words of encouragement, emotional or financial support, your love has lifted me more than you know.

To my family, friends, church family, coworkers, medical team, and even those I’ve met along the way your unwavering support means the world to me. On the days when the struggle feels overwhelming, it’s your kindness, patience, and understanding that keep me going.

You’ve made this journey feel lighter and filled with hope, and for that, I am forever grateful. Please know that your gestures, big or small, do not go unnoticed. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Together, we are stronger, and together, we will continue to persevere.

With immense gratitude and love,
Alicia ❤️🙏

💚💙 WHAT IS IIH? 💙💚
Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH) is a serious neurological condition in which the pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) around the brain becomes elevated without a detectable cause. This increased pressure may affect the optic nerves, threaten vision, and cause disabling symptoms that significantly impact daily life.

Common Symptoms of IIH Include:
🥼 Severe or persistent headaches
🥼 Blurred or double vision
🥼 Temporary vision blackouts or vision loss
🥼 Ringing or whooshing in the ears (pulsatile tinnitus)
🥼 Nausea and vomiting
🥼 Dizziness or balance problems
🥼 Neck, shoulder, or back pain
🥼 Pain behind the eyes
🥼 Brain fog, memory problems, and fatigue
🥼 Swelling of the optic nerve (papilledema)
🥼 Sensitivity to light

Is There a Cure for IIH?
There is currently no known cure for IIH. It is a chronic condition that may require lifelong care and monitoring.

📚 Treatment Options May Include:
💊 Medication – reduces cerebrospinal fluid production
🏃‍♀️ Weight management – may help lower pressure when medically appropriate
💉 Lumbar puncture – may provide temporary pressure relief
🪛 Shunt surgery (LP or VP shunt) – drains excess cerebrospinal fluid
👁️ Optic nerve sheath fenestration (ONSF) – relieves pressure on the optic nerve to protect vision
⛓️ Venous sinus stenting – improves venous drainage in carefully selected patients
👩‍⚕️ Regular specialist monitoring – helps protect vision and manage symptoms

🧪Treatment is individualized and focuses on reducing pressure, preserving vision, and managing symptoms.

🧠IIH is not “just a headache.” It is a complex and often misunderstood condition that can cause serious, long-term complications—especially when it is not diagnosed or treated promptly.

🗣️ Let’s raise awareness so more people can recognize the symptoms, seek timely medical attention, and not suffer in silence.

Good morning! Today, I am thankful for every person who chooses to listen, learn, and support those living with IIH. Sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness—checking in, sharing a post, offering encouragement, or simply believing someone—can make the greatest difference. Let gratitude guide your heart today. 💚

Good night. Tonight, I am reminding myself that caring for my mental health is just as important as caring for my physical health. Living with IIH can be emotionally exhausting, and I do not have to pretend that every day is easy. I am allowed to pause, breathe, pray, and acknowledge what I feel. Tomorrow is another opportunity to begin again. 💙
