Soludo Establishes Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission to Boost Energy Supply
Awka, October 9, 2025 — In a major stride toward energy independence and sustainability, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has inaugurated the Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ANSERC) — a landmark move to strengthen the state’s electricity sector and ensure efficient power delivery to households, industries, and businesses.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Governor Soludo described the event as “a significant milestone in our journey to secure a sustainable and prosperous energy future for Anambra.”
He said the establishment of the Commission marks the culmination of extensive groundwork, which includes:
The development of the Anambra State Electricity Policy
The creation of the Anambra State Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) for energy demand and supply
The passage of the Anambra State Electricity Law, 2025, which domesticates the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023 at the state level
The Governor announced the appointment of the pioneer board members of the Commission as follows:
Prof. Frank Nwoye Okafor – Chairman/Chief Executive Commissioner
Engr. Geoffrey Okwuchukwu Nwokoye – Executive Commissioner
Dr. Nnaemeka O. Ewelukwa – Executive Commissioner
Engr. Nosike Emmanuel – Executive Commissioner
Barr. Chijioke Nnaemeka Obi – Executive Commissioner
Governor Soludo explained that the Commission will serve as a regulatory watchdog over the state’s electricity market, ensuring transparency, accountability, and investor confidence in the emerging subnational power space.
According to him, the key responsibilities of the Commission include:
Regulating the electricity market within Anambra State
Issuing licenses to operators
Setting and reviewing tariffs
Monitoring performance standards
Promoting renewable energy solutions
Protecting consumer rights
Resolving energy-related disputes
Advising the state government on electricity and energy policy
“With this Commission, we are building the institutional backbone that will power our state’s industrial growth and improve quality of life for every Ndi Anambra,” Soludo affirmed.
He pledged his administration’s continued collaboration with federal agencies, private investors, and development partners to deliver “a livable and prosperous energy future for Anambra.”
