The vet tranquilizer xylazine is being used to cut other street drugs like fentanyl, co***ne and he**in, and overdose deaths are increasing. Representative Doug Bankson, Florida House District 39's bill to classify xylazine as a Schedule 1 controlled substance and establish mandatory minimum prison sentences for possession and sale of the vet tranquilizer -- outside of regular vet use -- is now before the House Judiciary Committee. Bankson represents Winter Garden and Apopka.

Thompson's District 15 senate seat. This sets up an interesting race between the District 40 rep from Ocoee and her estranged brother, former Sen. Randolph Bracy who once held this seat.

Representative Doug Bankson, Florida House District 39's House Bill 1539 aims to ban books in schools, state-wide, that have any sexual content regardless of their literary or artistic value, such as the Pulitzer Prize- and Nobel Prize-winning book, Beloved by Toni Morrison. School districts that retain books could lose funding. Teachers, librarians who share books with students could also be penalized. Critics of the bill say it violates students' First Amendment rights.

American Library Association, PEN America say “blatantly unconstitutional” legislation would violate students’ First Amendment rights.

Except ... politicians in both parties are doing their level best to block access to public information (SB 268) and make it easier for politicians to sue journalists for defamation (SB 752) -- with no statute of limitations or caps on damages. This is uniformly bad for journalism and readers/viewers, whether reporters work for the New York Times or Breitbart. SB 752 cleared its first committee.
