The Winter Garden mayor was asked Wednesday at the five-mayor State of West Orange panel discussion about what made his city "unique." He said that it was a "faith-based, family friendly community." Data shows that's not what keeps landing the city on the Best Places to Live lists.

Rees was asked at Wednesday's State of West Orange luncheon What makes Winter Garden “unique”?

Winter Garden is one of five cities and four counties listed on the Mobile Citizen app, developed earlier this year. Free through iTunes and Google Play, it's a bit like having the city receptionist helping Siri out.

The app provides answers to many commonly asked questions about Winter Garden services, such as, When can I water my lawn? Where do I vote? How can I report potholes or street light/traffic signal outages? What do I do about a clogged storm drain? How can I get a garbage bin? Can I rent a park pavilion?

The app provides numbers and websites and if repairs are needed, allows residents to fill out brief reports, take photos and upload them immediately to the appropriate departments.

The city is promoting Mobile Citizen for reporting non-emergency storm-related damage, like downed trees and power lines, flooding, and damaged traffic signals and street lighting, But it's a terrific pocket resource for all kinds of city information. Plus, as the city says in its winter bulletin, it's "the best way to get speedy resolutions to your service requests."
