I am so honored that Eileen Noonan is narrating the audiobook version of Unicorn Wasteland. We’ve known each other through a couple lifetimes and I am absolutely in awe of her talent. The audiobook will be out May 23rd from Everybody Press . UW is my 10th-ish book but my first audiobook, so this is a new experience for me. I hope you will consider listening to it!

I kind of love this picture of me at my book release party back in November. I’m not sure I would choose that outfit again, and I drank far more whiskey than I’d recommend if you have to read in front of an audience, but it was so much fun and I’m forever grateful to my publisher for flying me out to Brooklyn for this.

Each volume is produced with a three-plate custom letterpress design created by Robert St. John and printed by Rhonda Khalifeh at the Center for Book Arts. Every paperback is an actual piece of hand printed art work.

My biggest inspiration in writing Unicorn Wasteland was Sergio Corbucci's 1966 film, Django. The image of the main character dragging a coffin through a western landscape has stuck with me. I've always been haunted by that feeling during my first watch of wondering, what the heck is in that coffin?
For Unicorn Wasteland, I wanted to draw out that question, to play with it and let it linger. Having seen the movie is not a prerequisite for reading the book, because beyond that image and that question, there's little connection. Maria, my protagonist, has a different journey in front of her than Django did, but it is no less riddled with challenges.
I'm so excited for y'all to read this book when it comes out at the end of the month.
