Remembering the HEROES of 9/11...

In the bottom of this photo, you can see Ladder 118 crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge on their way to the World Trade Center.
Little did they know they wouldn’t come back, this was their last run.
This is their last known photo.
Every single Fireman on that truck perished just a few minutes later.

The HEROES in Ladder 118 who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11/01 were:

Vernon Cherry, 49
Leon Smith, 48
Robert Regan, 45
Pete Vega, 36
Joey Agnello, 35 and
Scott Davidson, 33.

WE vowed to NEVER FORGET....
Unfortunately, so many have!!!😢

Remembering the HEROES of 9/11...

Peter Langone, 41, a driver with Squad 252 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, a specialty unit, was the "elder statesman" at the firehouse, according to Firefighter James O'Connor.
He drove the truck and showed rookies the ropes, speaking bluntly at times.
"He never beat around the bush," Firefighter O'Connor said.
His wife, Terri, and his daughters Nikki, 9, and Karli, 5, were often seen around the firehouse, and they took weekend trips to the country.
They were planning a family trip to Disney World this winter.
He also liked to hunt, and in good years that meant venison stew in the firehouse.

Pete, nor his brother Thomas (NYPD ESU Truck 10) made it out of the towers.😢

WE WILL NEVER FORGET the ultimate sacrifice that he made on September 11, 2001!❤️🙏🇺🇲

Once a BROTHER, always a BROTHER!!

Lots of people know he's an actor, and that his name is Steve Buscemi. In 1976 Steve Buscemi took the FDNY civil service test when he was just 18 years old. In 1980 Steve Buscemi became a New York City Firefighter.

For four years, Buscemi served on one of FDNY's busiest, Engine Co. 55 in Manhattan's Little Italy. He later left the fire service to become a successful actor, writer and director.

After 9/11/2001... Brother Buscemi returned to FDNY Engine 55. On September 12, 2001 and for several days following Brother Steve worked 12-hour shifts alongside other firefighters digging and sifting through the rubble from the World Trade Center looking for survivors.

Very few photographs and no interviews exist because he declined them. He wasn't there for the publicity. In 2003 he also gave a speech at a union rally supporting higher wages for firefighters and to stop fire houses from closing. He got arrested along with other firefighters.

Also not very well known is that in 2012 Brother Buscemi showed up in Breezy Point, NY and quietly assisted in the clean-up efforts of the damage and mass destruction left by Super Storm Sandy.

"Steve Buscemi also serves on the board of Friends of Firefighters and was working with us in the field during Sandy. He's a big supporter and good friend who has never forgotten where he came from."

- Friends of Firefighters Executive Director Nancy A Carbone.

About Lieutenant Michael Esposito; FDNY Squad 1.

Family and fitness were integral parts of Michael A. Esposito's life. The 42-year-old Eltingville father of two adolescent sons spent all his leisure time involved in their sports activities and instilling values they could carry into adulthood.

Summers were spent visiting the boys' maternal grandmother in Florida and going surfing. "He was always doing something physical," said Mrs. Esposito. "Whatever he wanted to do, he did through his kids."

Mr. Esposito competed in triathlons, was a former member of the Fire Department's boxing team, and worked out regularly in the South Shore YMCA. He would jog several miles a day when he was in training for a Fire Department memorial run. In the summer, Mrs. Esposito began running with her husband in preparation for joining him in the Al Ronaldson Memorial Run. "He got me up to three miles," recalled Mrs. Esposito.

Mr. Esposito's cousin, Frank Esposito, a Tottenville firefighter who worked in Engine Co. 235, Brooklyn, also died.

"As soon as they said it, I knew in my heart that my husband was there," said Mrs. Esposito, referring to her reaction to hearing the first news broadcast of the attack.

Although Mr. Esposito had received numerous citations and awards throughout his career as a firefighter, he never considered himself heroic.

"He wasn't one for patting himself on the back," said Mrs. Esposito. "He thought of it as his job."

Recently, when Mrs. Esposito went to her husband's firehouse to pay her respects at an outdoor memorial, she decided it was time to bring home some of his belongings. When she opened his locker, Mrs. Esposito discovered it filled with pictures of her and their sons, spanning each stage of the boys' lives. "I'm very honored to have met this man, and to have been married to him," said Mrs. Esposito.

REMEMBERING the HEROES of 9/11.

This photo epitomizes firefighters everywhere. It was taken September 11, 2001, after the collapse of the first tower and shortly before the collapse of the second tower.
It shows Lt. Ray Murphy and Firefighter Rob Curatola of Ladder Co. 16 walking south on West Street towards the debris of the first collapse to resc ue survivors.
They had just assisted in the removal of survivors, one of which was an injured Firefighter.
Ray had instructed firefighter Rich Ratazzi, also of Ladder 16, to take the injured firefighter back to the ambulance staging area at Vescey and West Streets, and then to meet up again in the high-rise truck which is to Ray’s right in the photo.
As Rich was leaving to care for the injured firefighter, he took a quick photo with a disposable camera many firefighters carry.
Shortly after this photo was taken, a general evacuation of the area was called and Ray and Rob were caught in the destruction of the collapse of the North Tower.
Rich did not realize until the next day that he had captured such a meaningful photo.
Rob Curatola’s body was found on September 12, he had been married just (3) weeks.
Ray’s body was returned to us on October 1, 2001.
The photo which brings great solace to our family, shows the professionalism, courage, and determination of firefighters everywhere, who have the ability to remain calm and focused in the midst of such chaos!

FDNY - Vincent Princiotta was born on November 20, 1961 and would have been 63 years old today.
We will never forget the ultimate sacrifice that he made on September 11, 2001.

Vinny‚ a loving husband and father‚ was a devoted son and family man who always enjoyed life to the fullest and taught others to do the same.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many outdoors sports including surfing‚ sailing‚ bicycling‚ skiing‚ and snowboarding.
Vinny loved his life as a New York City firefighter‚ especially the ‘Brotherhood.’ What was closest to his heart was the knowledge that he was able to help other people.

To those who knew him‚ he was a caring‚ generous person with a great sense of humor‚ which included playing the most light-hearted of practical jokes.
Vinny touched the lives and hearts of all that knew him.
