I live alone in a small student apartment.
Some people thought I’d have something nicer by now.
But for me, it’s enough while I’m figuring things out.
I didn’t really have a typical teenage life.
No prom, no crushes, no love stories.
Maybe that made me a little hard to understand.
I speak slowly because I’m afraid of making mistakes in English.
It might sound awkward,
but I’m trying my best.
I’ve never had alcohol.
Some people think that’s boring.
I just feel more comfortable this way.
Sometimes I flinch when someone touches me suddenly.
It’s not because I don’t care,
I just get a little scared.
When I don’t understand certain jokes or references, I stay quiet.
Not because I have nothing to say,
but because I’m still learning.
I tear up when I hear my mom’s voice.
People say I’m too sensitive,
but she’s the one who feels like home to me.
