Angelo Plazaβs stepfather appears in court charged with toddlerβs murder
Twenty-four-year-old Shannon Miller, the stepfather of missing Tobago toddler Angelo Tobias Plaza, appeared before a virtual court on Monday May 25th 2026, charged with the childβs murder in a case that has shaken the country.
Miller appeared before Master Shabanna Shah following legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions to lay the indictable charge.
He was not called upon to enter a plea during the hearing. The matter was adjourned to November 30th for a sufficiency hearing.
The charge stems from the disappearance of two-year-old Angelo, who was reported missing on Monday May 11th, 2026, from Millerβs home at Cambridge Trace, Goodwood, Tobago.
The childβs disappearance triggered a massive search operation involving police, emergency responders, hunters, drone operators and residents from surrounding communities.
For days, teams searched beaches, forests, drains and remote areas across Tobago while citizens held candlelight vigils and prayer gatherings hoping the toddler would be found alive.
However, the investigation took a dark turn after investigators reportedly uncovered evidence contradicting initial accounts surrounding Angeloβs disappearance.
CCTV footage later surfaced allegedly placing Miller and Angeloβs mother, 20-year-old Khalifa Tobias, near Cambridge Junction during a period investigators were told they were at home.
As pressure mounted, detectives detained Miller, Tobias and several other individuals for questioning.
Investigators later received information allegedly linking Miller directly to the childβs death, including claims that he confessed to killing the toddler and disposing of the body at sea.
Despite extensive searches, Angeloβs body has not been recovered.
The Director of Public Prosecutions subsequently advised that murder charges be laid against Miller, while Tobias was released from police custody without charge.
The investigation remains ongoing.β Story by I.A.N News
