I’m sorry but ELEVEN THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED THIRTY-FIVE DOLLARS just casually sitting on a paper from 2018 is actually insane 😭
So let me get this straight… I went to the ER, got admitted, gave the hospital my insurance info TWICE, my insurance literally said the hospital only had a certain amount of time to submit the claim, and then after that… nothing. No follow-up bill. No calls. No letters. No drama. Just silence for YEARS. And now I randomly come across this old statement saying I supposedly owe $11,635.46??? Be serious.
Because at what point does this stop being “billing” and start becoming a jump scare?? 😩 Like how do you let something sit there since 2018 and then expect a normal person to just be cool with finding a bill that looks like a down payment on a house? If y’all had what you needed and still didn’t file it in time, how is that somehow my problem??
And that’s what really irritates me about hospital billing. They act like regular people are supposed to understand every insurance deadline, coding issue, filing window, adjustment, and claim process while we’re literally dealing with an emergency. I was at my parents’ house, I called, I gave the information, I did what I was supposed to do. After that I never got another bill, so why would I assume this was still floating around out there like some unpaid ancient curse waiting to come back from the dead? 😭
Also can we talk about how the original total was $13,754.15, insurance only knocked off $2,118.69, and somehow the patient balance is still over 11k?? For an ER admission?? This is exactly why people panic every time they open hospital mail.
I’m genuinely asking… can a hospital really come back years later for something like this if they missed their chance to bill insurance on time? Or is this one of those things where they dropped the ball and hope the patient just gets scared and pays anyway?
Because finding a surprise $11,635 bill from 2018 in 2026 would have me staring at the wall for a good hour.
