“If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together”

Creators are the ones that bring life to ideas, & getting a chance to take an evening to celebrate 32 of them on a rooftop overlooking Downtown Jacksonville made September 3rd one for the books.

& teamed up to host a dinner for some of the creatives that have been shaping what the city feels like for some time now. There’s a chance that you’ve overhead that Jacksonville is going through a Renaissance for the past few years & this was a way to not just commemorate the idea, but to begin the discussions of what that looks like moving forward.

Some conversations I found myself in revolved around what a return to community looks like (& should cell phones be present), how money & a scarcity mindset causes friction & slows down progress, & what future collaborations could result between unconventional mediums.

These conversations & dinners will continue to happen. Different groups, locations, concepts - & if this post helps spark just 1 of those gatherings, then it was worth sharing. Those kismet moments don’t take place inside your house.

PlacemakingJax has turned alleys, parks, storefronts, and vacant lots downtown into places people actually want to be. From intimate dinners to outdoor living rooms to full-scale shows, every project starts with the same idea: transform what’s overlooked into something worth gathering around.

TONIGHT we’re kicking off the 2026 year with a virtual session. This isn’t the open call—it’s the step before that. The rundown of how the year works, what’s changing, how the school and Task Force fit in, and when office hours will be.

If you’re curious about jumping in—or just want to understand the process that’s put Jacksonville on the map for creative placemaking—this is where it starts.

Tuesday, Sept 2 at 7PM sharp. Virtual only.

Refreshing! That’s the word best suited to describe the world .anthology created this past weekend.

Six Jacksonville floral designers took over Ruby Beach Brewing with large-scale installations and still-life arrangements. Floral Anthology, Indy Florals, El Camino Blooms, A Wild Array, Pen and Flower, and Atelier Paulette each built work from seasonal blooms and unexpected materials, creating the perfect escape on the second floor of Ruby Beach.

Inspired by international shows like Flower House Mexico and the Chelsea Flower Show, this debut invited the city to experience florals as art. The exhibit ran Aug 8 (6–9p) and Aug 9 (2–7p), and judging by the turnout and how charmed everyone was, I highly doubt that this will be the last time an exhibit like this comes to life. Bravo to everyone involved!

The energy last Friday was truly palpable! The grand opening of 41 E Duval St was EXACTLY what downtown needed & I can’t imagine anyone that attended disagreeing.

What used to be a legendary downtown music store got a second life. On July 25, PlacemakingJax brought together 5 creative teams to reimagine the space through immersive pop-ups.

Inside, created a Japanese-style INconvenience shop, the brainchild of Elena Ohlander. museum turned the space into a living archive of Jacksonville’s music scene. hosted a fully immersive silent disco. filled the building with EIGHT curated mini galleries. & debuted a vintage clothing store featuring hard-to-find Jags gear.

Outside, Simpo performed live w/ Pivotal Ascension. Sangria was served by the Sangria Truck. Wildcrafters provided the nonalcoholic beverages. Food came from Chef Naps, Chancho King, Chef Onyx, and El Cubano Jax. Pop-up poetry was typed on demand by Qi. & DJs Amy Tran, OG Greg, 4thQuarterQuan & Satellite Frank provided the soundtrack throughout the building.

The activation was part of PlacemakingJax’s ongoing work to activate vacant spaces downtown by supporting local creatives, this particular space was made possible through partnerships with & .

Follow each team for future pop-ups, the only way to get through the door is when they are open! I commend every person involved in bringing it to life! Bravo 👏👏👏

2 hours. That’s how long it took for of to sell out his latest dining experience—this time in an outdoor space in the heart of Downtown Jax. He goes by Naps, Chef, Mister, or Kalin Anderson depending on the day—but no matter the name, the mission stays the same: feed people well. Not just with food they already know, but with food that surprises them. This dinner, part of his ‘Curated By’ series and supported by PlacemakingJax, brought 30 people together for a skyline cocktail hour, immersive art, live music, & a family-style meal that shifted how we think about dining in Downtown.Naps is one of the most highly sought-after chefs in the community & has curated countless sold-out pop-up concepts across the city. He’s an embodiment of what it means to live, create, and support local and his words on his approach in cooking is spot-on, “It's something that you're familiar with, but also something you've never had before.”This is one of many projects funded by —where artists, organizers, and neighbors rethink what’s possible in public space. If you want to catch the next silent open mic night, Skyway Social, or whatever Chef Naps decides to cook up next, that’s where to look.

Seen at Act 3 of The Pop-Out! 📸 Just a few images from the afternoon

Created by for his project , “The Pop-Out: A Live Black Music Month Concert Series”, took place this past Sunday at Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing Park in Downtown Jacksonville.

This was proof that the rain does NOT stop the community from coming out. Larry is no stranger to putting on an event, so seeing the images of the massive crowds from the first 2 acts let me know that he surpassed all of our expectations yet again. Even with the weather, the team pivoted quickly & still figured out how to continue with most of the performances, while the vendors stayed busy the entire time.

In general, it’s just BEAUTIFUL to witness the activation of LEVS Park in the historic LaVilla neighborhood. The community is becoming more accustomed to experiencing the park with all of the recent activations, & only brings me back to the same phrase I’ve shouted for years;
Only the boring get bored! 😬

Congratulations to the entire team that made this come to life. It clearly took countless hours of work to make happen & I’m grateful you all are here to create the kind of city you want to live to live in.
