Feliz Día de los Reyes!
Happy Kings Day from ÑañitasinNYC.
In several cities throughout the world this day is celebrated with a parade where the three kings; Melchor, Gaspar, and Balthasar bring presents to the children. It is tradition to eat a Rosca de Reyes (sweet bread ). A symbolic figurine of baby Jesus is placed in the candy coated bread which are suppose to resemble jewels. By tradition, whoever gets the piece of sweet bread containing the figurine is obligated to host “El Dia de la Candelaria”, which marks the end of the Christmas season. In some household whoever gets the figurine has to buy the Rosca de Reyes for the following year.
What is your family three kings day tradition ?

Sneak Peek to Episode 3 ...more yummy Ecuadorian Food

ÑañitasinNYC went on the hunt for more Ecuadorian food in Queens.

This time they came across Chiflez. Chiflez is a Latin fusion restaurant that has food from South America.

However, for this food adventure we made to only try Ecuadorian food. Aka Monse didn’t allowed anyone to have the green sauce that was served on the side.

Steffi and Monse order:

Tripa mishqui( chitlins)which is a street food sold in Ecuador 🇪🇨 is typically serve with. hominy(mote), onions, tomatoes (curtido) and hot sauce if desired. In Chiflez they served this dish with choclo mote, havas, llapingancho, tostado and curtido. Cholo mote is a hybrid type of corn thats is mixture or corn and hominy. Llapingancho is a potatoe pattie that is fried. Havas is fava beans. Tostado is corn nuts.

Ceviche de Camaron (shrimp cocktail) ceviche has shrimp, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and in some households they add different items such as mustard, ketchup and even hot sauce it all just depends on your taste.

Empanada de viento (cheese pastry) which is a big puffy looking pastry that looks like is full of air and fill with cheese . This is usually accompany by a cup of coffee in the afternoon.

Thank-you Dario Castellanos and Randy Rivera for joining us in this food tasting adventure.
