Mercedes-Benz 500K Special Roadster

The Mercedes-Benz 500K Special Roadster (also called the 500K Typ Special Roadster) was a luxury convertible touring car made by Mercedes-Benz from 1934 to 1936.

The actual car was a high-performance classic with a supercharger (the "K" stands for Kompressor, meaning compressor). It featured elegant styling, a long hood, chrome details, whitewall tires, and wire wheels—all accurately shown here, including the front license plate that reads "500 K". This white version is a popular model replica made by Maisto (model #36055).

The original Mercedes-Benz 500K is one of the most famous and valuable cars from before World War II, with only a few dozen Special Roadster bodies ever built.

1936 Mercedes-Benz 500 K Normal Roadster

The Normal Roadster is one of the rarest versions of Mercedes-Benz's supercharged eight-cylinder cars. Only five examples are known to exist today from the small number originally made. This body style had a sportier look than other 500 K models, with a convertible roof that folded down completely flat with the rear section, creating a very sleek appearance when open.

The car had a distinctive waistline that dipped at the doors and curved around a very short rear seat that was almost hidden. This design was inspired by earlier Sports/2 bodies from the famous S-series cars. Mercedes-Benz's Sindelfingen factory made two versions: the early style had a flat windshield, while later models used a slanted windshield to match the changing design trends of the 1930s. Two spare wheels mounted at the back added to the car's impressive long-hood appearance.

The supercharged 5.0-liter straight-eight engine produced 160 horsepower when the Roots blower was activated, allowing the car to reach speeds over 100 mph when the driver pressed the throttle all the way down to engage the compressor. Mercedes-Benz built 342 examples of the 500 K chassis between 1934 and 1936, before increasing the engine size to 5.4 liters and switching production to the more powerful 540 K model.

1954 Kaiser Special 2-Door Club Sedan
Kaiser produced only about 500 two-door club sedans in early 1954, making them much rarer than four-door models. These were leftover 1953 Manhattans updated with new front sheetmetal, Safety-Glo taillights, and fresh paint to sell as entry-level Specials.

Finished in two-tone Jade Green Metallic over Stardust Ivory, the car featured a 226-cubic-inch inline-six making 118 hp, paired with a three-speed manual and 3.91 rear gearing on a 118.5-inch wheelbase.

1954 was Kaiser's second-to-last year building cars in America, with only 8,500 total units produced. Without V8 power or stylish bodies, Kaiser rapidly declined—just 1,231 cars were made in 1955 before U.S. production ended.

The 1927 Lincoln Model L Imperial Victoria: A Coachbuilt Masterpiece

Origins and Rarity
Crafted by Fleetwood—the renowned Pennsylvania coachbuilders—this 1927 Lincoln Model L Imperial Victoria stands as a testament to bespoke automotive artistry. Constructed upon a substantial 150-inch commercial chassis, it emerged as one of merely six such chassis allocated to independent coachwork firms that year. What distinguishes this vehicle further is its probable status as the sole example not repurposed into funeral or emergency medical service, having retained its original luxury passenger configuration.

Distinctive Design Elements
The vehicle's architecture showcases remarkable ingenuity through its triple-row seating arrangement, wherein each row benefits from dedicated windshield protection. The crowning aesthetic feature remains its elegant "cape top" styling—a sophisticated roof treatment that defined premium coachwork of the era.

Communication Innovation
Among its forward-thinking amenities, the Imperial Victoria incorporated a unidirectional intercom mechanism, enabling rear-seat occupants to transmit messages to the chauffeur without receiving audible replies—a clever privacy feature for discerning passengers.

Technical Advancements of 1927
The model year ushered in substantial mechanical refinements to Lincoln's L series platform. Engineers reduced wheel diameter for improved handling characteristics while introducing four-wheel mechanical braking as standard specification—a safety advancement Lincoln marketed as their "six-brake system." This comprehensive arrangement integrated four-wheel internal expanding brakes actuated by pedal alongside supplementary two-wheel external contracting rear brakes controlled via hand lever. The instrument panel received thoughtful redesign, with gauges now positioned upon an oval surface for enhanced ergonomic accessibility.

Legacy Context
This luxurious motorcar exemplifies the elevated standards of comfort and aesthetic sophistication that characterized Lincoln production during the Ford Motor Company stewardship period, representing the pinnacle of American coachbuilt automobiles in the late 1920s.
