Celebrating the work of the African American playwright through the production of their plays. The Harlem Ensemble Company was founded in 2002 by Evelyn Collins.

It is 501 C-3 not-for-profit theatre company in Harlem. HEC made its debut in 2002 with the award winning drama "The First Breeze of Summer" by Leslie Lee.
