For the last 31 days, we’ve looked back at the people, music, memories, milestones, and moments that have made WSIA what it is today.

From our earliest days to the students currently behind the mic, every generation has added something to the story and today, WSIA-FM officially celebrates 45 years on the air.

Thank you to every student, alumnus, artist, volunteer, listener, staff member, and friend who has been part of the journey.

Yesterday, generations of the WSIA family came back together to reconnect, share stories, revisit the station, and celebrate everything this community has meant over the years.

Thank you to every student, alumnus, artist, volunteer, listener, and friend who has helped carry Staten Island’s Answer this far. The story isn’t over yet. 🎙️

Take Me Back to the Ball Game ⚾📻

Today we’re looking back at WSIA’s time with the Staten Island FerryHawks, where our students stepped up to the mic, called games, conducted interviews, and gained hands-on experience in sports broadcasting.

St. Patrick’s Parade, on the airwaves.

In 2007, WSIA took the broadcast out of the studio and straight to Staten Island’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Led by General Manager Phil Masciantonio and Chief Engineer John Ladley, the team set up near Greenleaf and Forest Avenues in Westerleigh, interviewing local leaders and paradegoers while the studio kept the celebration going with Irish music.

It’s another example of how WSIA has brought the airwaves directly into the Staten Island community throughout our history.
