Join us for a free historic streaming event on January 15th! Rhythm, Rhyme, & Resilience was a gathering in late 2024 that we here at Respair took part in and recorded.

This event features spoken word, jazz and blues, and words of wisdom. The event honors our ancestors, commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday and Dream, and uplifts the Black community.

Respair’s Dame and Kiss were honored to be a part of the event. We opened the space with some call and response, and shared the work we’ve been doing to further the abolitionist vision across the US.

Recorded at the historic Rosa’s Lounge in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, the multi-genre, multi-generational program is a love letter from Chicago to uplift the Black community and family nationwide.

If you’re in Chicago, join in person to watch with the cast and crew!

So grateful for our workshop in New Orleans! We dug deep into how humanizing, subject-to-subject dialogue can transform our collective futures and strengthen our movements.

Talking Toward Repair: Dialogue, Dialectics and Liberation was our workshop at Tulane University exploring how journalists and media-makers can create a humanizing practice built on dialectical dialogue.

📚Book us! We are available to lead a teach-in exploring how we create a practice of media-making that supports radical transformation, and the unique importance of media in the fight for a liberatory future.

It was truly a pleasure showing our film at the Chicago Humanities Festival! Our conversation afterwards featured Maira Khwaja from the Invisible Institute. We are grateful to the entire festival for continuing to make prison and police abolition a conversation, one that will be important more and more in the coming four years.

One Million Experiments is a film that explores what it means to create safety in a world without police and prisons. Wanna host a screening of your own? Hit us up at [email protected] 📧

NEW ORLEANS — Get ready for a screening of our experimental abolitionist film, One Million Experiments!

After the screening, we’ll be speaking with two radiant folks. Our guest co-host is kai lumumba barrow, a self-taught and accomplished visual artist and social-movement organizer of over forty years. Barrow has worked with numerous organizations against state violence and prisons, and on experiments with abolitionist models for shrinking carceral logics. Barrow is interested in the praxis of radical imagination and experimenting with abolition as an aesthetic vernacular.

Our special guest is Brandan “BMIKE” Odums from StudioBe. Through his organization Eternal Seeds, he provides artists with tools they need to become the revolutionary leaders and shapers of a more just, equitable, and artful world.

Screening will be Sunday, November 13th at 6:30p at StudioBe (2941 Royal St).

NEW ORLEANS - Come through to a workshop we’ll be facilitating! We’ll be exploring the importance of media in the fight for a liberatory future, and how journalists and media-makers can create a humanizing practice built on dialectical dialogue that supports radical transformation.

Participants gain hands-on tools to navigate power dynamics in their own media projects, classrooms, and community spaces; best practices for interviewing on-mic when discussing systems of harm and structural violence; and frameworks for building media projects that create sustainable and mutually beneficial collaboration with movement organizations and communities at the front lines of challenging systems of harm.

This event is proudly co-sponsored by Tulane University Libraries, The Phyllis M. Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking, the Tulane Violence Prevention Institute, and Digital Media Practices.

Talking Toward Repair: Dialogue, Dialectics and Liberation will be next Tues, November 12th at 3:30pm in the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library.

📸 Check out our banner hanging up at Tulane University outside the Stern Hall PJs.

We loved sharing our film 1ME and hanging out with our pals Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn as part of the Peace and Justice Studies convening at Niagara University! It is so important that we spend time learning from our movement elders.

We are always overjoyed to learn from Bill, and urge you to go scoop his new book “When Freedom is the Question, Abolition is the Answer” from a local bookstore near you.
