It’s been months since I recorded a podcast but episode #7 is live. There is a good reason for the delay. This was tough.

It took me a while because I felt it was important to share some things about my life with you. I value your time as much as I value mine so in exchange for your time when you listen to these episodes on mental health and life’s hurdles, I wanted you to know what gives me the right to talk about it.

There are some dark moments that I discuss in this episode. It took me a long time to build the courage to discuss them openly. There are things in this podcast that some of my family and most of my friends know nothing about.

But those moments are what made me ME.

I sat down with Brett Sobieraski following his completion of “8 States for Maz.” Brett ran 50 marathons, one each day for 50 days in a row starting in Florida and finishing at the Fallen Police Officer’s Memorial in Rochester, New York honoring murdered Rochester Police Officer, Anthony “Maz” Mazurkiewicz.

We talked about running up hill and visits from your inner bitch voice. Support from local businesses. Physical rehab and pre-hab. What Brett did when he wasn’t running. What was the high point? The conduit. Figuring out how to get off the couch, learning your why, and getting started toward your goals. And what is next for Brett Sobrieski.

*****An important note:

Today’s episode is difficult to listen to. Not because of the content but because I messed up.

I learned a difficult lesson when I recorded this. One of the first rules of podcasting is to do a quick audio test and playback to make sure everything works as it is supposed to.

I broke that rule. Brett had been my last guest on the podcast so I assumed everything was still set up the way it had been during that recording. But it wasn’t. I had forgotten that I had tested some new equipment after his first visit and changed some equipment settings. And while the visual audio readings appeared as though the equipment was working properly, it wasn’t. If I had tested it and played it back I would have known. But I didn’t and that is my fault.

As a result, the quality of this recording is poor. You will hear a buzz when Brett speaks because his microphone was not properly setup. Again, that is my fault.

I am disappointed in myself. I am so very sorry that Brett took to time following such an amazing accomplishment to record a two hour podcast and it is not the quality that I normally produce. I have apologized to him personally and I will do it again publicly here. I am sorry I did not take the extra two minutes to ensure your message was heard with the quality it deserved.

I value everyone’s time and I value the emotional conversations these podcasts create and I messed up. I have since purchased additional equipment to improve the quality of future recordings. I will always, from this point forward, take the extra time necessary to make sure these recordings are of the highest quality.

I debated whether or not I should release this recording because I am so very disappointed with the quality. After much thought and consideration, I believe Brett’s message deserves to be heard. Maz’s legacy needs to be remembered. Brett’s emotion deserves to be felt by our community. So hear it is.
