🌲 Paddle. Paint. Preserve. 🎨

What does it mean to be a traditional Adirondack guide in today’s world?
Matt Burnett —sixth-generation Adirondacker, artist, and year-round wilderness guide—takes us deep into the backcountry and into the history of one of the North Country’s most enduring occupations.

From paddling hidden rivers to painting the landscapes he knows by heart, Matt’s life blends adventure, art, and a deep reverence for the Adirondacks.

🎉🏡 Congratulations to Northwood Cabins! 🏆
We’re thrilled to learn that Northwood Cabins was named a 2025 Adirondack Architectural Heritage Award Winner by Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH)!

Both Northwood Cabins and AARCH have been featured on our ADK Talks podcast this year — and their stories are as charming and timeless as the cabins themselves. From preserving Adirondack history to keeping the spirit of roadside lodging alive, this award is well-deserved.

The Perseid meteor shower is here — and the Adirondacks are one of the best places in the Northeast to watch it. 🌌 Best nights for viewing? August 12 and 13.

This year, a bright moon means you may not see as many meteors per hour — but under the Adirondacks’ dark skies, you'll still catch a spectacular show.

🎂 Happy Birthday, Governor Flower!
Born on this day—August 6, 1835—Roswell P. Flower wasn’t just another politician with great sideburns. He was the 30th Governor of New York and the man who signed the law that created the Adirondack Park. 🌲

Lake Flower in Saranac Lake? Yep, named after him. So next time you're sipping coffee by the lake or cruising in a canoe, give a little mental toast to the guy who made sure this corner of wild beauty was protected.

💬 Tag a fellow trivia buff—or someone who thinks “Flower” is just a pretty name for a lake.

For James Bond fans, this is one of the best films. Did you also know one of the James Bond novels, "The Spy Who Loved Me," is set in the Adirondacks? Well, now you do. https://www.adktaste.com/blog/james-bond-in-lake-george-adirondacks

Adirondack Film is excited to partner with The Strand Theater at Schroon Lake and Adirondack State Theater, to present two screenings of the James Bond classic, “From Russia with Love”, on August 4th and 5th. Both screenings will feature a special introduction from film historian and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) host Jeremy Arnold.

Sean Connery’s second foray into the world of espionage and intrigue, “From Russia With Love” follows James Bond as he willingly falls into an assassination plot involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by the organization Spectre.
