Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), on Sunday, rescued an abducted victim and arrested a suspected kidnapper in separate intelligence-led operations in Benue and Nasarawa states.

Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters JTF OPWS, Lt Ahmad Zubairu, in a statement on Sunday, noted that the operations carried out on September 4 and 6, followed sustained offensive operations by the troops.

He said the intelligence-led operations were meant to disrupt criminal activities and deny kidnappers freedom of action across the OPWS Joint Operations Area to include Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba States.

OHANEZE NDIGBO URGES HAUSAS TO RECLAIM THEIR LAND, VOWS SUPPORT

Ohaneze Ndigbo, through an Abuja regional government delegate, has reportedly encouraged Hausas to wake up and reclaim their land, while pledging to support them in all ramifications.
The call was reportedly made against the backdrop of claims that the Hausa people are the original owners of the land, while Fulani interests have gained political control in parts of the region.
Supporters of the position also accuse Fulani groups of contributing to insecurity in the area.
The remarks are likely to generate debate over land ownership, political control, insecurity and relations between Nigeria's ethnic communities.

Gunmen killed Dekina Local Government Area APC chairman, Hon. Ishaq Onu Yunusa, during an attack on the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway in Ofu LGA, Kogi State.

Kogi State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Afusat Saliu, said the attack happened about 5:00 p.m. on August 27, 2026, when shooters emerged from bush and opened fire.

Police found Yunusa dead in an abandoned blue Toyota Corolla with plate GWA 636 CH, while another occupant was kidnapped, and officers are combing nearby forests.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have invaded a community in Adamawa State, killing five people, including a police inspector, during an attack that left residents terrified.
