Opinions on cabinet update
Our cabinets are currently builder grade white shaker style, and after a couple years I realized I just don’t like them. White is safe and timeless, but there is no personality.
Our house is only 5 years old, but we’ve been doing projects to make it our own since we moved in because all the custom things we wanted weren’t in our budget when we built - our main focus was a layout that we liked and enough space. Some updates we’ve done have been incorporating more warmth with some darker paint in different areas (dark green wall in dining space, color drenched master bedroom in dark blue), changed bathroom floors to terrazzo tile, and cut open under the stairs to utilize the dead space for LEGO display. Our dining table is live edge walnut and we just got our top for under the stairs and it is 2” thick walnut and turned out so much better than I imagined. We want to incorporate a bit of mid-century modern feel, but not go full speed because our home is definitely not mid century modern.
It got me thinking, and now ChatGPT has me convinced I need to redo our cabinets - we would put walnut veneer over the white cabinet boxes (based? Whatever they are called) and have solid cabinet doors made by the same person who made our walnut top. Cabinet pulls would be changed to black. I do not plan to change the grey countertops or white backsplash. (Under the stools will be walnut too, but ChatGPT missed that part)
Am I just too obsessed with walnut and think this will work with the other finishes just because I want it to, or does it actually look like the choices were made to go together from the start?
