Are people who wear smart glasses creeps—or are critics overlooking how important this technology can be for blind and low-vision people?

In episode 300 of iCantCU, I discuss the growing backlash against Ray-Ban Meta and other camera-equipped smart glasses. Privacy concerns are legitimate, and the technology can certainly be misused. But broad labels and assumptions ignore people like me who use smart glasses as assistive technology.
My glasses can help me read signs, identify objects, locate an exit or restroom, and better understand unfamiliar surroundings. I have used them to navigate airports, hotels, and convention spaces. For many blind people, the camera is not about secretly recording strangers. It is about gaining access to the visual information that sighted people receive automatically.
I also recap my trip to Austin for the National Federation of the Blind National Convention, including the NFB of Pennsylvania exhibit table, Texas barbecue, handmade shawls, a new adaptive backpack, and a long wait for bats that never appeared.
Finally, I share a candid update on Ziggy as he reaches the final round of chemotherapy for lymphoma. The treatment has been difficult, but we are grateful for every good day and every familiar glimpse of his mischievous personality.
Episode 300 was not marked by a huge celebration. At this point, recording another episode—and having you watch, listen, comment, and follow along—is worth celebrating.
