Real Estate Chats with Jennifer Ho. Let’s talk about buying a multi-family home.
People buy 2 family homes because they want it as an investment property or have the rent help pay for the mortgage. Here are things you need to know when buying multi family homes:
1. Know your budget. Multi family homes will cost more.
2. Talk to a lender.
3. Make sure that the house your are buying is zone for it. Some 2-family homes have been converted to a single family. Check with town hall to make sure you can change it back to a 2-family units.
3. Make sure there are separate utility meters (electric, gas and water)
4. Make sure there are separate heating system.
5. Don’t assume you can just AirBnB the other unit. Some areas do not allow AirBnB
6. Hire an agent. We are here to help you.
