❤️Emotions run high as “Nat” & “Lila” step into a new world and an empathetic shelter manager, DARYL DISMOND , understands exactly where they are on their journey.

🎥IMPORTANT MOMENT: With a short film, end on inspiration, hope, joy + music. Give your audience a reason to leave smiling.

Real buskers. Real actors. Real music. One big kaleidoscope of NYC energy. 🌈🎶

That’s where the authenticity comes from.

Esther-Rose McGregor🌈 & Lala sparkle in this scene as new beginnings are literally right around the corner. ⭐️

🎥 INDIE TRICK: Can’t afford the location? Cheat it! 😉 Our “shelter” was actually the outside of an apartment building. We simply had our actors start climbing the steps and voilà: a whole new world.

Fake the location. Sell the story. Make it work.

Marsha Dietlein Bennett & Brenda Braxton brilliantly portray two women who simply can’t see each other’s truth until “Nat” shows them a light that can’t be dimmed. ✨

🎥 PRODUCER TIP: Dialogue gets chopped. Scenes change. That’s filmmaking. Hire actors who can adapt, take direction, and still bring the brilliance. 🙌

09/11/2026

Sometimes a little acapella & improv is all you need to make a scene sing. ✨

🎥INDIE TRICK: Give your actors enough freedom to make bold, unexpected choices. Sometimes their instincts create the magic you could never write on the page.
Let them play. Let them surprise you.

“NAT” Lala needed the lights down to feel comfortable performing. The judges listened. ❤️

ROOKIE MISTAKE: We spent WAY too much time chasing perfect sound & lighting. This scene cost us 2 HOURS that day… and guess what? We fixed it in post.

🎥 Filmmaking lesson: Keep moving. Perfect can kill a shoot.

09/08/2026

YOUR LIGHT ISN’T MEANT TO COMPETE. ✨

It’s meant to be shared.

What makes you different is what makes you shine.
That’s where the magic and the meaning begin.

FUN FACT: Cast your community. Friends & students from the places you volunteer can give your film an authentic, lived-in feel and turn your set into family.

And hey… it doesn’t hurt to give yourself Alixx Schottland (Scarlet Latner) & your son a little cameo. 😉🎬

Use the people who believe in you. ✨ Make the movie. 🎥
