The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft had a huge game on Wednesday evening. Bueckers, the No. 1 pick out of UConn, scored 44 points on 17/21 shooting in an 81-80 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. She became the first rookie in WNBA history to score that many points in a game, while also making league history. Bueckers became the first player in WNBA history to have a 40-point game on 80 percent shooting from the field.

That's right - even Caitlin Clark, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, hasn't done that.

WNBA breaks single-season attendance record

The Women's National Basketball Association has officially broken its single-season attendance record, attracting upwards of 2.5 million fans to games around the country so far this year, the league announced Thursday.

The new record, set on Wednesday, accounts for crowds that attended 226 WNBA games in 2025 involving 13 teams, according to a social media post shared by the WNBA. The previous record, set in 2002, was reached after considerably more games — 256 — and involved more teams — 16 teams — than the new record.

WNBA sets an all-time attendance record with 2,501,609 fans as of 8/20/25. In 2002, the record was set with 16 teams across 256 games. This season, the WNBA broke the record with 13 teams and just 226 games.

Caitlin Clark Injury Update: Fever Coach Lays Out What Must Happen for Her Return

Caitlin Clark has a pretty significant hurdle to get over before we'll see her in game action.
On Wednesday, Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White was asked for an update on her team's star and the response wasn't encouraging.
"Until she can get into practice, and until you guys see her in practice, it's really status quo, same as same as we have been," White said.
Clark hasn't played since July 15 as she has dealt with a groin injury. She has been sidelined for the last 13 games, and her entire season has been beset by injuries. The 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year has only played in 13 of of Indiana's 35 games this season.
When healthy, Clark has been excellent. She's averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. Indiana needs its star guard back because the team has seen its backcourt players dropping like flies. Aari McDonald, Sydney Colson, and Sophie Cunningham are all out for the season. Colson and Cunningham have knee injuries, while McDonald has a broken bone in her right foot.

The resilience of the Indiana Fever continues to be tested. Amid season-ending injuries to guards Sydney Colson, Sophie Cunningham and Aari McDonald in the past two weeks, the Fever faces heightened competition in the race for the WNBA playoffs while playing without multiple key players.

Sophie Cunningham details Caitlin Clark's injury, explains why she's missed Fever's last 13 games

With three impact players out for the season and Caitlin Clark still on the mend with a prolonged groin injury, is it time for the Indiana Fever to worry ahead of the playoffs? Sophie Cunningham is the latest to suffer a significant injury and she understands frustrations from fans who want to see Clark back in the lineup.

Coach Stephanie White and the Fever continue to refresh, Clark's "day-to-day" status and that's the truth, according to Cunningham, who herself was knocked out of the rest of the season with a knee injury last Sunday.

"She doesn't even know (when she'll be back). Literally, it's a day-by-day legit type of thing," Cunningham said on Tuesday's "Show Me Something" podcast. "Yeah, it's close, you have to remember she would be playing if she wasn't in the WNBA right now. At this level, with how deep and how good people are nowadays in our league, which is the best it's ever been just trying to get her back in game shape is what they're trying to do.

"Again, it's literally a day-by-day. I'm not withholding any information."
